Default Epiphone bolt-on neck reset?

I have two early 70s Epiphone acoustics with bolt-on necks. Apparently there are two schools of thought on resetting the necks on this kind of design.
(1) Take the neck off, reglue the block, use shims to get the right angle, and bolt the neck back on.
(2) Same as (1) except that you also glue the neck to the block as well as bolt it when you put it back on.
This will be my first attempt at a neck reset and I need advice from anybody who knows what he’s about in this area.

I would try option #1 however...I have never done it on an Epiphone but I did it it on a very old 1973 Norman with a bolt-on neck. All I did was loosen the bolts and shim the neck pocket so the neck angle was correct and then tightened up the blots.

The neck on these is much like an electric guitar. Shim it. If the neck block isnt loose you dont need to worry about it.

Well if the neck block is too loose, it will slip towards the saddle. When that happens it messes up the side of the body underneath the neck.

This. I picked up one from a pawn shop once for $20. Remove neck, shim. Mine also had the horrible acoustimatic adjustable saddle/bridge which I replaced at the same time.

Gave it to a friend who wanted to learn to play.

Rule #1 for guitar neck resets: Take the instrument in question to a qualified tech/luthier and have it done properly.

No, it's pretty solid. But these guitars were stored in really dry conditions for a long time, so I'm wondering if I shouldn't reinforce the block while I have it opened up. I haven't started in on it yet; this is my first venture into serious guitar repair and I'm trying to find out how to do it the right way before I dive in.

To open it up to reglue the neck block, is removing the back, if it is solid leave it alone

The dread that I built has a bolt-on neck. I've taken that thing off more times than I can count for adjustments. I would never glue it when bolting it on. it's been good for several years now but I may still need to take it off again someday.
