You can turn the effects off in the mixer by holding down the button for the specific effect, waiting for the menu to appear and selecting "no plug in".

Doug, thanks! I still have yet to add the outboard Lexicon effects.

Joseph, No, I was just applying different plug-ins to see how they sound, so I have not tried the outboard effects yet or frozen anything.

Ferg, thanks!

Has anyone here ever try the Acoustic Guitar Stereo Doubler (Reverb) effect? It really is an amazing effect! It really widens the stereo image in a realistic way.

Is that some 3rd party plugin? Or a setting on a Logic reverb? The Stereo Spread plugin (under imaging) does a pretty impressive job on some sources, just doing the alternating EQ trick.

It is a guitar reverb in Logic.

Oh, I see. It's not really a plugin, it's a preset for loading a package of other plugins as a group. Just using delay and space designer here for the effect. I've never even tried any of those, I guess largely because I'm mostly using non-logic plugins. This setting is creating the wider sound by delaying one channel. A common trick, tho it tends to be a bit fake sounding.

Thanks Doug, I appreciate your input. Do you mean a package, which includes the EQ and Compression? I saw those in the mixer view(this is all new to me) for the track. Where do I find this Space Designer?

well, Logic's calling it a "Setting" in the mixer view. But all it does is load up the effects inserts with preset values. The doubling is coming from the Delay plugin that gets inserted when you select Setting->Acoustic Guitar->Stereo Doubler. You can also click on a blank Inerts button on the mixer, and choose from a bunch of delays. All the Setting is doing is creating a Sample Delay plugin with the right channel delayed by 641 samples. It creates what's known as the HAAS Effect. So you could do this yourself with directly with the delay plugin and vary the delay to taste.

If you like wide stereo effects, you could also try clicking on a blank Insert button, and pick Imaging -> Stereo Spread. This is a somewhat more realistic, but also pretty dramatic effect done by EQing each side differently. There's also the Imaging->Direction Mixer which uses Mid-Side techniques to widen (or narrow) an image.

EDIT: My reference the HAAS effect is a little misleading. The Haas effect refers to the phenomena where delaying one side changes the apparent location of the sound. While adding the delay does widen the sound, it also tends to make it pull to one side, which is what bugs me about that for a solo guitar track. It can work great in a mix, where you want a big sound that's positioned off to one side in the soundstage.

Doug, do you have the 64 bit version installed? I noticed in my "About" info for Logic, it says 32 bit. Did I miss my opportunity to install the 64 bit version, or is that a separate bundle?

Hello everyone.

I've been using logic since 6.0 a good few years since 2004 ish.

I have had many questions and have got many many answers here.

http://www.logicprohelp.com/

The guy who runs the site is David he is know all be all logic.

He usually personally answers questions.

Sorry I am no teacher and logic is so vast that being in a dedicated logic forum is the perfect place for a new logic user to be.

Just a suggestion.
