Default Recording our Trio.

I know what you mean and I agree the chances of getting caught out are minimal but still...

I would say the "but still" is why no one mentioned it.

But still, you could inform on this guy and send ASCAP and BMI to go after every youtube poster. Hundreds of thousands of them. You could, but still ...

BMI/ASCAP don't chase down youtube videos - do you know anyone making money from them (the little pop-up ads supposedly pay something?) Promotion to get gigs is different than making money from playing the songs -which is typically covered by the venue's BMI/ASCAP license.

On the other hand, some rights-owners (Warner Brothers comes to mind) will send out cease-and-desist notices to owners of youtube videos using their songs (Neil Young songs for example).

Hey steady on, I'm not going to rat on anyone - I play mainly other people's music too!

If I'd framed the question a little differently maybe this part of
the discussion would be a bit more objective.

Apologies to the OP, I didn't mean to hijack the thread. I hope you guys got the tips you were after.

Interesting topic. Not something I have considered but probably should.
