Default Spanish guitar music

Hi when I do decide on which nylon string guitar to buy ; I am kind of curious about some Flamenco or some Spanish type of playing, I 'll never get any good at it but I would like to learn some pieces. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The Guitar Music of Spain, Volume 1 by Bartolome Catalyud is mostly simple melodic 2-page Spanish pieces.

6 Catalan folk songs by Miguel Llobet - also accessible to intermediate level of play, not too lengthy, easy to find.

Flamenco Explained, by Kai Narezo and Scott Wolf, is a great explanation of Flamenco styles

I really like Juan Martin's flamenco book, 42 solos. It's graded 0 to 5 for difficulty, and he explains techniques. There is usually a CD with it.

Some great resources already mentioned... just to do some shameless self-promotion, I have made videos specifically for people just starting out with Spanish guitar. Check them out, I hope you find them useful and please feel free to get in touch directly if you have any questions...

Jose Maria Gallardo del Rey has composed some find pieces that blend elements of flamenco with typical classical guitar. He sells his works from his website.

I've been dabbling in Spanish guitar of late and find that it's a huge sea to try and navigate. I've also found that there are differences between "Spanish" guitar and "Mexican" guitar. The Spanish end is more like traditional Classical music, but my ear leans more toward the folky sound and feel of the Mexican guitar music. It's hard to find online, because if you type in "Mexican Guitar" you end up with a bunch of corny complication albums (same goes when looking for "Celtic" music).

The stuff I like ends up usually being steel string players who have been influenced by Spanish/Mexican players and add that slight accent to their playing.

Spanish guitar is beautiful, but it always ends up sounding like classical music and becomes boring to me.

Any recommendations for some good Mexican guitar music?

It sounds like you are looking for more of a latin type style in the Rumba, Salsa, Tangos vein.

Spanish classical guitar is classical but very different from baroque styles that tend to dominate. Much more romantic, moving, and fiery all at the same time. For instance listen to Concierto De Arajuez for guitar.

When to buy a nylon string (Classical guitar) guitar was your question I believe? If you like the sound of nylon string guitars and like
what various music sounds like on them (does not have to be classical guitar pieces necessarily) it's time to look around for one.

Not really. Rumba, salsa, etc. is dance music. I'm talking more about Mexican cowboy or folk music. It's hard to fully explain since I don't know the terms well, but when I hear it I know it's what I'm looking for. Try and imagine some of the licks that Willie Nelson incorporates in his playing and you'll know what I'm talking about. Here is one of his pieces that captures this style perfectly:
