This week I am split between to projects: an EP with four songs for a brilliant young Indy female artist that I am co-producing and engineering and the soundtrack for the Christmas program on an episodic TV show. The EP is fun in that my co-producer and I are fleshing out the skeletons of songs the artist brought in into Indy and EDM songs. The Christmas show has its own charms. It is a variety show based around a little drama plot. I've got a Gospel/jazz singer with piano, an Indy female artist with guitar, a jazz singer/doghouse bass duo, a four-piece carol choir, and an all-sing to wrap it up. All of these were recorded live in the studio, actually an old theater. I'm mixing the songs and sending the mixes to the editor. He will place my mixes in the show timeline and will eventaully export the show timeline back to me to be mixed.

Variety is the spice of life, no?

Bob

I stumbled over this guy doing demos at Carter's, as my friend
Smokin' Joe would say, "he's the best!" ...

Friday, I got on an old Country & Western kick. Watching on youtube.

Started with my introduction to music. When I was 5 or so. I would listen to Marty Robbins Gunfighter Ballads. I'd pick out the melody to El Paso on Mom's piano.

Found this album at a garage sale the other day.

Thought I'd check Youtube. Started with Marty, then Merle, and Conway. All musicc that had some kind of meaning to me.

Ended up in a puddle.

I'm smiling to see a robot chosen "Chill Mix" on the phone this AM. The context was historically unheard of long lines to vote yesterday. 1.5 to 2 hours. It was chilly and windy and there was some poor behavior from some so I put my earbuds in, listened to music and read an e-book.

Somehow it was funny to see that title this morning.

Overall I'm still on a big kick of letting robots play stuff for me and putting some of that in playlists to revisit it. It has been superb pleasure vs a common tendency to go for things we know.

Sped through a recording of the CMAs on TV last night. I wasn't terribly impressed with how pop-ish most of it seemed until I stumbled over this fellow (Marcus King) laying down a stunning solo in a nice Zac Brown piece. Had to look him up and discovered he's quite well known in some circles - at 24 years old. Found this piece on YT. Big fan here.
