Question How old is this guitar?

Hi!

(English is not my native language so pls don't choke on my grammar)

So my grandpa had this guitar, which he apparently got from his parents. No one knows the origin of this guitar or what's the story behind it.

It is probably from Europe, It has the romantic style look that was popular from the early Stauffer guitars. It has no serial numbers or anything. (Or it has worn off somehow because it's not in a very good condition).

BUT.. The weirdest part is it has someones signature on the back of the guitar. I can't identify the letters cuz they are worn off.

Anyway, look at these pictures and tell me what do you think?

I would take it to a luthier to get a professional opinion. It's hard to know a date, but perhaps a luthier might be able to give you a general time frame.

I'd be curious if there might be a label or signature inside. A light with a dental mirror would let you look around. Check the neck block. You might try looking at the signature with a UV light to see if it would show up more clearly. Other place you might check is a museum that includes old musical instruments.

Sounds like a fun mystery.
