Default First Finish Stage

I have the first stage of finish on this "Tree" Josie small jumbo model:

I'm just showing the back, sides, and neck because stage two is French polishing the top. I mixed up a new batch of alcohol and blonde shellac flakes so it would be ready to start the process on Monday.

Wow. In theory I would have wanted Ebony binding to frame the figure of The Tree without competing with it, but the flamed binding is really working here. Not too busy at all. Well done, Mark!

I love it especially the totem pole with the two faces in it running down the center of the back, that must have been a difficult inlay job!!!

Also a big fan of the binding choice. Great colors and depth.

Cool, I also see the faces, the upper one looks like an angry slimfaced alien with a stern look out of 2 pairs of insect eyes - and a small face directly below it, followed by a 3rd one - I like the totem idea!
The curves of the upper bout and cutaway remind me of the outer perimeter of a cowboy hat to the alien face... an alien cowboy ?
..and no, I am not drunk , just a lot of phantasy

Thanks Erithon, who would of thought that Honduran Mahogany binding could contrast so much on a Honduran Mahogany back and side set? The Fiddleback Tree on The Tree sure does though!

Mark, I love your builds. I have been a lurker here for sometime. It's truly amazing what you've accomplished with all those beautiful unique woods.

Turn the guitar upside down and zoom into the top middle section of the back to reveal a very sad Egyptian Pharoah's face and beard. Lol.. Amazing figuring on that back.

Thanks Paul, it looks a lot like a good curly Koa binding but, actually the same wood as the back and sides, it's curly Honduran Mahogany. Of course they are both celebrity woods being the Tree and the Fiddleback Tree binding

Thanks for commenting OM28V and also for your kind words.

Default Bubinga Cross Over Closing to Box

I'm just closing up the body on this Penelope nylon cross over:

I feel the waterfall figure Bubinga goes great with the lines of this guitar:

Here the top is going on to close the body:

That will be a stunning guitar. How could it not be with Mark's touch and those woods! That Bubinga is special.
