You can use Reaper for 60 days (I believe) without paying for it. Check it out. It is a absolute bargain at $60. In 2 months you can get pretty deep into it. I paid up within 2 weeks.

You can use it forever without paying, you just get a pop-up when you sign on that you can click off.

I paid my $60 and consider it one of the best software values around. I really like their marketing ethic based on trusting the honesty of the end user. That's something that's rare in this day and age and it's good if we can reaffirm their good will marketing efforts. |

I agree- I wasn't promoting that people shouldn't pay, just that they are not restricted (where some software cripples itself after the free trial period).

I picked up a used Tascam dp008ex for £70 in excellent condition. The quality of recording is quite phenomenal

I should have read the thread all the way through first…sorry.
I see you want to plug-n-play and mess with it afterwards some. My suggestions were not in that direction |

To get the Tascam to record, simply turn it on and press the record button after following instructions in the manual for setting up the type of audio files you want to create and turning the input gain wheel up. |

I meant to use it as the computer mic... And I can't get Reaper to read midi files I already have.. it seems to only read it's own files |

MIDI files are not the same as audio files. I would not expect a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) to read MIDI files (though some may). |

I guess it won't read the exported wave files of Audicity

I'm probably over thinking what I need, I'll probably either buy one of those PreSonus Audiobox 96 studio's For $199 or a Zoom H4 I do think I need to up grade from my Tascam DR 5, the recordings are mainly just for me, for improving in my singing and playing
