Martin Brazilian "1967" D-35S Conversion, NOW w/ HISCOX Artist case
This wonderful guitar started out its life as a D-35-12. It was purchased by me in 2015 with the express purpose of using the beautiful, landscaped Brazilian back and sides as a conversion project. I turned it over to John Hall of Blues Creek Guitars, whose work I have admired for years, to turn this guitar into a one-of-a-kind D35 twelve fret instrument. I worked with John to create the specifications that would work best for a stunning-looking guitar that would also play and sound beautifully as either a strummer or a picker. The result is an instrument that can produce delicate finger-picking melodies, or handle the most aggressive picking attack you can give it—and still have plenty of headroom! $5500 includes shipping and insurance CONUS. I'm happy to provide additional photos and an in-hand descroption of condition (which is excellent). I also have a "video tour" of the guitar I can email to you. Thanks.
Here are the specs: 1. New mahogany neck, c-shape, with a 1 ¾ nut, and slotted headstock 2. New torrefied Adirondack soundboard (top) with Herringbone inlay 3. New ebony pyramid bridge and new maple bridge plate 4. All new top-bracing, 5/16th scalloped (red spruce)—forward shifted 5. New mosaic backstrip on the three-piece back 6. Ebony fretboard with snowflake inlays 7. Snakewood binding on back and top, with single-line white boltaron outline 8. New Waverly tuning machines with Snakewood buttons 9. Highly-colored abalone rosette, cut through the fretboard (in the style of Martin’s 00-42SC (John Mayer Stagecoach model) 10. Polished headstock with highly-colored abalone torch inlay 11. All hide glue new construction 12. K&K passive pickup professionally installed A white Hiscox Artist case now INCLUDED! Please note that while there are a few minor imperfections in the finish of the guitar, (the ones under the bridge in the below photo are the most prominent) there is nothing significant. What appears to be a ding in the upper left bout is not--it is a figuring in the grain of the wood, with a bookmatched twin on the other side, but less noticeable.) Do you have any pics of the bracing?

I'm sorry, I do not. I guess I could try sticking my phone inside and hope I acutally aim it at something you are hoping to see?!

Well, I did try to get a photo of the bracing, but all i got was a big blur! Not sure how to do this?
I also now have a video clip of me playing the guitar. WARNING: it is not high quality (shot with my older Android) and, uh...it is ME playing, so hardly a good look at what the guitar can sound like. Send me a PM if interested.

I was hoping to see the scalloping on the bracing. How close it starts to the X and how deep it is. Same with the tone bars. I usually put my phone inside and turn off the lights and let the flash capture the inside.

Ok...let me try that. Will report back this afternoon, hopefully with a photo that can actually show something!

Bracing
UncleJesse...Here's my best effort so far at capturing the bracing. Tried to get a wider angle, but could not. Let me know if I should take some more (while the strings are still off!)

I bet if you removed the rosette stuff from the fingerboard, the guitar would sell in a heartbeat...

Well, I guess that is possible. But I can tell you that of all the people who have seen this guitar, the first comment from most is "what a cool rosette"! That is until they play it, then they say "what a great sound"!!!

I'm not sure why that it is. They show up fine for me, and obviously for some others at least. Anything else I should be doing?

your broken pictures and they all have "expire" times associated with them. I can see the pictures in your post #9, but not the ones in your post #1. -Mike |
