You mean beaten up in a manner that naturally worn guitars never do? Yeah, pretty stupid, and worse yet when they look so completely faked.

What I like about reliced guitars is the fact that they have less or thinner finish. I believe that helps a guitar be more responsive.

I am politely anti-relic. The idea of something that looks like it has been played. Why not just play it a long time? Even then, I'd never get that kind of common wear on my guitars. I'm way too accurate with a pick and never wear anything that would scratch up my guitars. I once had a shirt with metal buttons and quickly learned to select a different shirt if I wanted to play guitar. I use classical fretting hand techniques and use jumbo frets, which keep my necks looking pristine.

Well the old adage "Ya get what ya pay for" is true.... My relic job was very very expensive, which is why it's so hard to tell it from the "real thing"

Something similar came up in conversation recently. My response...if one feels frustrated because something is not understood then I would offer some options...

1. Try to gain a better understanding (if the motive is to really gain understanding)

2. Ignore it. Who cares... really? If it’s not a financial decision (or personal choice) that I have to make...why do I care? There are many things in life that can and will cause frustration. Life’s too short.

3. IF blame MUST be affixed, blame the purchaser. There’s no market without demand.

4. Everyone has a personal preference, budget, idea of sound financial decisions. Just because we may not understand or agree with their “rational” doesn't entitle us to deem it as foolish.

Obviously there are just as many who love “relicing”. Whether done naturally or not. So much so that they pay a premium for them. As long as the demand is there...supply will provide.

Ignore it. Who cares... really?

Right?

I don't care.

If I was ever lucky enough to end up with a pre-war
guitar (they are supposed to be really good guitars)
I'd just get that least/almost none level of relic...

But I'd probably get some other guitar that didn't have
relic. If I was lucky enough to get some high-end
Martin-like guitar, I'd wish it to be a Dudenbostel...

People are free to spend their money on whatevef they like....
Me? No way, in the same way that I wouldn't scratch and bash my Mercedes to make it look more used..........

Not really frustrated with it but it’s not my thing.

I hate the entire concept. The elevation of the phony over the real.

Probably says something cogent about our society at the current moment.

(Lol, I don't blame relicting for the downfall of western civilization. But I do think it is expressive of it.)

I'm picky and careful not to mark my guitars. When I see production wear on a new guitar it makes me chuckle to myself. I'm sure it brings a smile to the new owner too. I guess it's a win-win situation.
