Beautiful-both the concept and the craftsmanship.

I'm so glad I could just walk into Steve's shop and walk out with my new Falcon.
I don't think I could stand the agony of waiting...and with all the beautiful build photos taunting me! (Delayed gratification has never been a strong point for me )
Very beautiful work Steve.

Default Bound & Closed Box

I got some updates from Steve today and it was pretty timely. I just sold my Larrivee J-09FM yesterday and it was a very bittersweet moment. It has been one of my favorite guitars over the years and I really hated to see it go. So, it was very affirming to receive the email update and photos today from Stephen.

On the last update and batch of photos the box had been closed up and we were going to get started with the binding.

We’ve got a maple, cocobolo, and flamed koa binding theme going to bring out the colors in the macassar and accenting the rosette and sound hole nicely. I think it works really, really well!

Super Close-Up detail with a Koa "PoP" (maple, coco, r, koa, r, b)

I think she is looking marvelous…I’m just “wow” beside myself with excitement and overjoyed with how incredibly “on the mark” Steve has interpreted the dream I shared with him for this guitar. However, considering that the “aesthetics” and beauty of the instrument are only part of the equation, one still need consider the tonal potential for the build. Therefore, I was ecstatic to hear Steve’s report with these words:

"But never mind all that. Now that the box is fully built, I want to tell you, the resonance of the tap tone is nothing short of extraordinary! If you hold the sound box so that the sound port is close to your cheek, you can actually feel a puff of air when you tap on the top. Tap notes are clear, loud, and sustaining. No matter what the finished guitar looks like when it's done, the sound quality and response are going to trump everything else. The Adi top is absolutely plus ultra. It was thrilling, listening to the sound coming into focus as I finished the top tuning. The back and the top are both working in symphony now."

This “sounds” like a really good thing to me. Oh yeah... I shouldn't forget the shots of the back!

We move on now to the next phase which will be neck construction. Here is the direction we’ll be heading in Steve’s words; “I'm using my usual laminated neck construction, with Honduran mahogany, a black walnut center fill, and maple veneer lines. These woods look great with the Macassar ebony back and sides. I'm also planning to use some dark, beautifully figured Cocobolo for the fingerboard and front headstock plate (and also the bridge). It's from the same Coco board that I made the bindings and bevel trim with. The rear headstock plate and heel cap will be Macassar, taken from the left-over back wood. The fingerboard and headstock will have flamed Koa purflings, same as the top and the rosette.”

We’re getting closer and closer…and it just keeps getting better and better. I know from our talks that Steve has some great ideas for the final theme elements integrated in the fret board and the headstock. So, we’ve got more surprises to look forward to. Thanks for letting me share!

Thank you. It's builds like this that make me feel like I need to seriously step up my game. I look forward to seeing it under finish.

Enjoy it.

That description of the tone from the box is amazing, if that was my guitar it would have me on the edge of my seat waiting to have it in my hands!

Oh, and it looks good too I love the woods and the way they work together.

It's absolutely beautiful. Plus, from what Steve says it's going to sound better than it looks? Incredible. Congratulations.

Thanks Hen, with the wonderful instruments you dance and "play" with, that is quite a compliment. A special thanks to your for sharing a bit of your world with us too, not only in the build threads, but offering some of those musical masterpieces back into the AGF community. I talked earlier about the bittersweet emotion of selling some especially beloved instruments to finance this particular guitar; I can only begin to imagine what you must go through. Thanks again, for sharing my joy.

Thanks Racman, I agree... I can't wait to see it all together and under finish. I get all "goose-bumpy" thinking about it.

I agree with you, Fliss, I am on the edge of my seat! But, I know the saying is true, "good things come to those who wait." I stand in awe of the beauty of Stephen's work and realizing how much this guitar is "calling" to be played (and it doesn't even have a neck or strings yet) gives me extreme delight to hear his endorsement of its tone. Simply put; "I can't wait"

Thanks Dale, incredible indeed. I still have to pinch myself every now and then when I look at the pictures and think, "that's gonna be my guitar???" By the time completion day comes I'll have bruises up and down both arms
