Default NGD - Didn't see this one coming!

NGD: PRS 594 Semi-hollow, Wood Library, Brazilian Fingerboard, Flame Maple Neck

I could not resist the sonic and visual beauty of this magnificent guitar! I started out looking at the Hollowbody II w/Piezo. I was thinking the HB II might be a nice hybrid blend of Acoustic and Electric that would bridge the gap so I could use it at my solo gigs. But then I compared the PRS Hollowbody II to this PRS 594 Semi-hollow Wood Library 10 top. The 594 semi-hollow tone blew me away. Then I compared the PRS 594 semihollow model to the solid body PRS 594 version (A very equivalent model with a "10 top." The PRS 594 semi-hollow had more air, detail, nuance and dimension (to me). It is stunningly versatile. I love coil tapping the neck PU and playing in the middle switch position with the bridge PU. Stunning!

That’s a beauty! - nice guitar - I wonder what it weighs, and if it has a centre block. Congratulations!

Fantastic! What a beautiful PRS. What does the back of the headstock say "Custom built for x only"?

Beautiful! No-one builds electric guitars like Paul Reed Smith. Absolutely impeccable standards to their builds.

What pickups are those? 57/08 or equivalent?

This amazing PRS guitar weighs just 7.02 lbs. It is semi-hollow. I believe there is a center block. The pickups are the current 58/15 LT low turn Coil tapped humbuckers used on the 594 model. Superb!!

"US only" due to Brazilian rosewood.

Gary, good grief! This is so awesome, and gas inducing as well! Are you in my head? I've been looking at Taylor T5s, but this is STUNNING!

I would be interested to see how this performs vs your acoustics for your gigging purposes. Your playing style seems to fit a guitar like this perfectly, and the access to the upper frets would make playability a breeze. What kind of amp do you use for something like this? Electric or acoustic amp?

Looking forward to some videos my friend! She's sweet!

Thank you Jonathan. You and I share similar taste in guitars and a taste for both acoustic and electric. I DO think this could work for some of my solo gigs. When I switch the neck pickup to the coil tap/single coil mode and blend it with the bridge PU, the sound is very pristine. I've tried it through my Princeton Reverb and it sounds wonderful. I have a limited Edition Knotty pine cabinet version with 90w Celestion Alnico Cream speaker. So it stays super clean and chimey. But I also tried it through a Fishman Loudbox and that sounds nice too ...IF I keep it clean. Pushing a bluesy sound with an electric guitar through an acoustic amp (or through a Bose) is less pleasing to me.

I would imagine that if you could find some pedals to beef up your sound a bit, it would/could sound better than an acoustic, and it would be infinitely more comfortable to play. To me, if I gigged solo as you do, this would have to be the type of guitar I used.

Excited for you!

I have lots of pedals. The question is what pedals work well with an electric guitar through an Acoustic amp or PA like the Bose L1C? The one that comes to mind is a Line6 Helix, but the Looper recording time is way too short. So I can't use just one large Pedal solution. I need a degree of practicality in terms of how much gear I carry. So I need to see if there is a good solution that fits a small/medium pedalboard. I like to keep things simple for my live gigs since I perform so frequently. Economy-of-motion so everything loads in and out in just one trip.
