Harvey is a stand-up guy.

He helped a friend of mine in a similar situation and the result is spectacular!

Harvey who is the baddest inlay guy around, is all excited about the tricked out inlays he is going to do. I am such a big believer that things work out for a reason...and this is really going to be the best result that I could have asked for.

Glad to see you getting this one rolling. With Harvey doing the work, I'm sure it'll be hard to determine which is better, the sound or the inlay

I think it is a lesson for all of us to have learned....and why in my opinion, I believe there is alot of reason why to go with a builder that requires a small deposit on order ($500), and then a reasonable deposit (25%) when they start, balance when it is finished. It was way too easy to get caught in a bad situation with a substantial deposit, then if something happens to the builder, you have already paid 75% of the guitar, and wind up with a bunch of unfinished pieces and a challenge to get them, and a challenge to get them finished. And by the way, that happened to me!

So be careful guys... there are countless examples of builders that have untimely medical issues and passings that have left alot of people in a real mess. Thank God that there seems to be this good natured group of luthiers that offer to step up and try and help complete these unfinished projects. I know Don Sharp stepped up and helped Eric finish his baritone and it turned out really nice.

Keith, very glad you are getting this one going after the several challenges, and it looks like you will be ending up with something very special! A reward for your patience, and kudos to Harvey for taking on the work and in adding his hand print to the build!

Best,

Phil

This will be my third “completion” of a guitar started by a luthier who (sadly) passed away. All three have had one thing in common... frustration with a difficult situation. All three also had another thing in common... most of the original purchase price had already been paid in and yet these customers all very generously put extra money into the families recovery funds and none asked for a refund. Therein lies the beauty of the relationship that usually develops between builder and customer, I can’t really think of any other industry where that is true.
I have a soft spot for these things I guess because because being close to the McCollum family I was able to witness firsthand how much both the customer and the family want the situation to end well.

I also can’t stand guitar wood going to waste...

Harv
