it's a cuatro. it is a traditional latin guitar...i know it as a traditional puerto rican guitar. see here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_Rican_Cuatro

I had a hand made one about 7 years ago from PR but the weather by me did a number on it so this time i am getting one from a shop to see if it lasts longer (or maybe i can take better care of it this time around...). my hand made one was out of maga wood like the one shown in cuatro section here http://www.cumpiano.com/Home/Guitars...atin-page.html

the ukes are recent. i got the 1 on the right side as a cheapo kid uke last christmas. the frets need to be filed down so bad it could never be used and i don't have the time to do it. i would definitely cut my fingers bad if i ever tried really strumming it. then about a month ago i got my 1st one which was tenor size with passive pickup. after getting that and liking it i found there are really 4 main sizes for them so i decided to get the other 3 (soprano, concert, & baritone). i did some research and settled on some popular ones which were affordable. so in the end i wound up with the list below. the 2 sopranos are on the ends of pic. the other 3 are lined up the top middle of pic.
  1. I think Kohala kids Uke
  2. Kala KA-S Soprano Mahogany Ukulele
  3. Kala KA-C Satin Mahogany Concert Ukulele
  4. Cordoba 20TM-CE Tenor Cutaway Electric Ukulele Natural
  5. Koloa Baritone Ukulele, Solid Mahogany
