Default The Fair Flower of Northumberland {El McMeen cover}

This is an arrangement by El McMeen which is found in his Celtic Treasures. Great book. There are 24 tunes in it and all are in CGDGAD tuning.

After 12 "takes" and a punch in due to running water in the kitchen, here it is.

On the Avalon, recorded with 2 AT-2035 mics as a staggered spaced pair, into a Zoom H5.

Very pretty, Barry! Loving these Celtic tunes.

Would you recommend learning songs in this tuning even if I'm "focusing" on DADGAD right now, or do you think it would confuse me?

Thanks!

I don't know why the use of another tuning would confuse you, but I may learn tunes differently than you do. When I learn a piece of music, the tuning that it is written in only matters when I tune my guitar. Once I tune and start to learn the piece it doesn't matter.

I haven't memorized chord forms in any other tuning except for standard so I don't think in "chords" in DADGAD, CGDGAD or other tunings, I learn the finger positions in the notation.

Wonderfully played

Just love the tone of your Avalon. You sound so at home with it.

I hope El heard this. I’m sure it’d be a blessing to him. His arrangements are so beautiful.

Thanks for listening E! I'm still working on mic placement though.

Excellent playing there, Barry I love how El uses so many different registers. You did real well on the low parts, very clear and articulate. Bravo!
