Default 47 years

Swapped a big Guild Fiddleback and $275 for a 1951 Martin 000-28 in about 1973. Going on 50 years. She's still a beautiful little guitar. Playability is important to me, so the neck has been reset, new frets about 10 years ago, new Waverly tuners about 2 years ago.

Forty-three years. I bought a 1974 Kalamazoo Gibson Les Paul Standard used in 1974. Still love it.

I'm pretty sure that fact would add substantial value to the guitar as well. A 1 owner (essentially) 1950 D28 in 2020, yeah. That's awesome.

1972 Gibson J-45 Deluxe. Bought new in 1972 and have played the heck out of it. Gigged with it all through the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Still plays and sounds wonderful. Many people don’t like the Square shoulder J-45’s from the 70’s. I must have an odd one because mine has played and sounded great from the beginning. My daughter has it now.

My wife gave me my Martin HD-28vs for Christmas 25 years ago. Hanging on my wall today.

Two asterisks:
  • I still have the $55 Harmony Classic I bought in 1974 as my first. (But didn’t count that as it hasn’t seen the light of day in a decade....at least.)
  • Bought a Gurian JR in 1978. Sold it in 1993 or ‘94. Found it and bought it back a couple years ago. Didn’t count that in the poll either. That One also happens to be hanging on the the wall this morning.

Default What is the longest time you have owned a specific guitar?

35 years? - an old Takamine that I've had since the mid-80's.

It's not my daily player anymore, but I keep it around for oddball tunings. Had it setup for Nashville tuning for most of the last few years, and restrung it a few months ago so I could keep it tuned to modal E for some Stephen Stills stuff.

I can't imagine ever getting rid of it. It's just been too good a guitar over the years.

Now that you brought it up, you should pluck out an old tune or two on it.

Cool! I owned a Guild D-25 from 1973 until 2010. After 37 years I'd worn the guitar completely out, but I still managed to trade it straight across for a Washburn Rover.

'73 was a good year for Guilds!
