Default OH, NO ! Not ANOTHER humidification thread !

But, seriously, what's the best brand, of the kind that has a built-in hygrometer, and it adds water as needed.

I used to use Humidipaks exclusively, but now I read that they have been redesigned and basically suck these days.

Where did you hear that? Been using them for years with no problems. Got my latest batch about six months ago to stock up for this winter. They look the same to me...

I have a couple of "old ones" (over 5 years old, probably) and they have nice cloth bags to hold the paks.

On several websites I have seen comments by posters who say that now these bags are flimsy and tear easily, especially on removal.

Not my experience. The new holding pouches are an improvement in my book. They are leak proof to protect against the rare case when a bag might leak.

Yes sometimes they can tear but I had the same problem with the older ones.
But I have to ask, what is old and new. When did they change the bags?

Not "all in ones" and not cheap, but I will use my "Music Nomad" hygrometers which I've been testing and seen to be pretty accurate, and the soundhole humidifiers that are a bit like the D'addario design but far superior.

Haven't needed anything so far this year ...we'll see.

I’ve used the Humidipak bags for several years, and have had no issues. As far as old vs. new bags, I’ve not noticed a change, but I know D’Adarrio tried using a solid plastic “hanger” with a clip-in dowel for a while to hold the bags up over the strings & into the sound hole...and it was a complete failure. The ones that have a sewn-on tab to hold them works 100% easier...so maybe I have “new” ones.

They keep my guitars a pretty stable 49-51% all the time.

Yep...these are the “new” ones. BIG improvement.

After spending hundreds on replacement pacs I found a youtube video showing you can rehydrate by soaking in distilled water. $$$$

I’ve been recharging them like this for the past couple years. Works great. Saved a bundle. I only recharge them twice before they get tossed. Don’t want to push my luck...

In Arridzona humidity is too low, sometimes in single digits (Fahrenheit). It's hard to judge what the humidity is inside the case, but this works for me. An oversized Epiphone case with a cup of water after the headstock. In the soundhole I use a Nomad humidifier. The sponge in it holds water like no other. I put a cleaning cloth over the sound hole before I close the case to keep the humidity in the soundhole (in theory). No pets or people live with me so the guitar in case should be ok staying flat on the floor.

And, as I pointed out initially, there are a lot of BAD reviews on this product. (Check out the comments on that link at the end of the list. Sweetwater always posts the worst reviews on anything at the end.)
