Default Covid killed my NGD

Yesterday,

I received a message from my second-hand guitars feed for a 2016 Martin 000-18.

The price and pictures were great so I started asking for more pictures to the owner. I also asked Spoon Phillips about the string spacing change that occured in 2016.

Once the owner sent me extra pictures, the neck came out flat and the action good. So we discussed the transaction.

The owner wanted to sell the guitar in person (as mentioned in the ad), so I had to either take the car or the train to Paris (France). It is a 4h drive by car door to door, and around 3h by train if the meeting occured at the train station. For such a trip, I would have to stay overnight at my mom's.

So everything was settled, I was happy. I've been GASing for a genuine Martin 000-18 for a while.

Then my wife and I watched the news on TV...

I got cold feet. The idea that might mom could die because of my GAS was haunting me.

I own two Martin dreads and an Eastman E6OM (which is based on a 000-18 / OM-18 ). I don't "need" a 000-18.

I chickened out and wrote the buyer to cancel.

I just mean GAS should not arm our love ones.

I feel very sorry for you, Cuki.
And I want to let you know, I like how you are caring about others. You did well!
There will be another 000-18 one better day.

I think you’ve made a wise decision! Another 000-18 will come your way soon although it is probably rare in France.

I also admire your sad decision, but how about having it shipped? Then wipe package with diluted bleach, then when opened wipe down case and guitar in diluted bleach and change strings etc. ?

Just a thought.

In times like these, it is very important to keep our priorities straight. Protecting the health of ourselves and our loved ones should always be a high priority.

I know that your experience of disappointment will pass rather quickly, and then you will appreciate the strength and clarity that are the basis of your wise decision.

And, as others have said, another 000-18 (or another equally enticing guitar) will appear soon enough. Delay of gratification is not easy, but it is mature.

You didn't chicken out you manned up.

Looking and hunting for guitars is a lot of the fun of GAS, so you can still do that.

Say "Bonjour" to Mom for me and mention I said her son was "tres bien".

Covid is stomping many a buzz, but better a buzz kill than an actual kill. You made the best choice, but I completely empathize with how you must be feeling about it. Another guitar will come along. Stay well.

Thanks everyone for your posts.

The seller does not want to ship. He made it very clear on his ad and I respect that.
