QSC K8 powered speakers/Doyle
Just saw Doyle Dykes Tuesday night at Coffey Music in Westminster, Md. He had his usual array of DDSM guitars, a new custom R Taylor short scale 12 string, his T5, and Rivera amp. The great guys at Coffey ran sound through the new QSC K8 powered speakers and added powered subs, mic'ing the Rivera and running vocals through a mixer. The sound was phenomenal. If anyone is looking for a small, very powerful, very lightweight speaker with incredible headroom, I'd highly rec the K8s. QSC also makes a K10 and K12. I have one K8 that I recently purchased and it is an incredible way to amplify vocals or guitar. I use it to supplement in larger venues. It puts out 1,000 watts of clean headroom, has lots of ins/outs and some really cool eq options built in like a "deep" switch and "vocal" switch that allows you to pump either more bottom or high end clarity. The K8 has several inputs and ways to link and send the signals, really cool setup.
As for Doyle, he is Doyle. If you have ever seen DD, you already understand. He puts on a show that really engages everyone, whether you are a guitarist or just there to listen. His playing was astonishing and keeps you looking for the other three guitarists he must have hidden in the wings. You either are inspired (if your glass is half-full) or ready to sell your gear (if your glass is half empty). Judging from the folks that hung around after, the inspiration won out by far. davidc |
