Will phantom power hurt my preamp?
I really hope that my question will make sense on here, so here we go!
Ok, I have a 2-channel USB interface runnning into my computer. Channel 1, I'm using for a condensor that uses phantom power. Channel 2, I'm wanting to run to a tube pre-amp (Studio Projects VTB-1) that will be powering my Shure SM57. (I've tried doing the mics in the reverse inputs of this and the 57 is not nearly hot enough.) However, the problem is when I turn on the phantom power on the interface, it powers both channels, not just one. So here's my question: Will having the phantom power turned on damage the output of my pre-amp? Thanks. |

Hi PPG, I called a friend of mine at Studio Projects and he said that you should be fine. Just don't turn on the phantom power on the VTB-1 at the same time that you are connected to the USB interface. Hope that helps.

That helps A LOT! I don't plan on having my phantom power on the preamp while I'm using it b/c I'm using a Shure 57.
Thanks again! |
