The Kustom PA50/PowerWerks PW50 will do all the above for $99 bucks. 50 watts, 3 channels, stand mountable and you can daisy chain them with XLR microphone cables for more channels and power. 2 to 3 of these will put out enough acoustic output to keep up with your son's band's current equipment. I own a sound and lighting company and am never embarrassed to offer these as sound solution for personal practice and public performance. They are the lowest priced professional PA gear I recommend. Yes, the Alto Trouper is very nice and reasonable. Two of them can be linked via bluetooth.

The only caution I would add to the above is that the bluetooth linking is only for the third channel for playing music from a device. The bluetooth linking of the Alto Troupers doesn't work for the primary two channels, you'll have to use the 'link' connection with a mic cable (which works fine by the way).
