Default Boss VE-8 footpedal - how to change default settings ??

Quick question.

I bought a Boss footswitch for the VE-8 and the default setting is that it will change the presets when activated.

But I know you can also apparently use it for the looper function, run through guitar effects or vocal harmonies - you just need to choose which one.

But I have no idea how to change the setting so the foot switch can be used for the other purposes other than the overall presets.

Can anbody help please ... ??

It's on page 13 of the manual. You can download a PDF version here:

Step 1: Press the memory button and the harmony button at the same time. You will see "C1" flash briefly on the LED display, and then it will show a number between 1 and 15. If you've never changed this it will be a 1.

Step 2: Use the up and down arrow buttons to increment or decrement this to the number you want for the new function. For a looper stop/clear (like you would have on a two button looper) you want this to be a 3.

Step 3: Press the memory button again. You will see it briefly flash a C2, then show the number of the function that is currently assigned to the second button. The default is 2. Use the arrow up and down buttons to choose the value that you want for that function. A value of 4 will let you toggle between looper sources (guitar, vocals or both). That's what I use.

Step 4: Press the exit button to save this and go back to regular play mode.

All the programming pages use this interface. Actually the VE-8 is pretty versatile when you play with the programming a little. You can do things like send a stereo feed of guitar and vocals with reverb to a stage amp through the 1/4" outs, but send the sound man guitar through one XLR, and vocals through the other. You can also disable the reverb going to the XLR outs (which is what most sound men will prefer) while using it on the 1/4" outs for your stage monitor amp.

I also like that looping keeps the vocal and guitar separated.

I like that it uses a standard 9v power supply. I use an iSpot with a long cable.

I like that it doesn't pop when you turn it on or off.

I like that I can use it with batteries.

I like that it gives me phantom power and good EQing for both the mic and guitar. I like that it gives me high pass filters and a notch filter.

So I followed your instructions, and it seems to work, but it doesnt the function i thought it would.

I wanted to use it to use the pedal to change the types of guitar or vocal effects, without having to reach down and touch the knob.

But it doesnt seem to do that, it just switches them on and off, which is disappoiniting.

The Play Acoustic unit allows you to run through the vocal effects with your foot by pressing one of the pedals, and thats a real highlight of the unit.

I guess you cant do that on the VE-8, am i missin something ?

Oh, and one other thing - is it possible to cancel the looper guitar pieces at the end of the track, without switching it on first and having to hear for a couple seconds the looper part before it cancels itself ? Very annoying.

I can answer the "one other thing" question. Yes, set up one of the external buttons as a "stop/clear" button. Press and hold this button to clear the loop silently.

As for the first question, you could set up a bunch of sequential effects on adjacent presets and step through them.
