Smile John Mayes neck...

Hey gang!

I have John Mayes guitar #40. It is a really lovely OMish "Jumbo Parlor"

In need of a minor neck set. I am hoping someone here may have some info on JM's neck and FB attachment techniques.

Appears to be a bolt neck but that is all I know. My guitar guru, Tim Luranc is hoping for more info before wading in to the process.

Any help or leads for help GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Play on and tune often

Cheers

Paul

I 'believe' it is a full bolt on/off styled after a Bourgeios. So a slight reset should be a snap.

While I certainly cannot attest to any particular John Mayes guitar, I can state that according to his DVD's on making guitars he uses a double mortise and tenon approach: e.g. there are 2 fasteners going into the heel of the neck, and 2 fasteners going into the fretboard extension.

Said information comes from the DVD entitled: Neck Setting & Double M&T Neck Joint

Yeah John was using the Bourgeois Neck joint which is a relatively quick and painless neck set from chatting with him about that in the past probably a half hour job for a skilled luthier.

Last I knew John was working at a guitar shop in Norman, OK. Maybe you can reach out to them and perhaps they can hook you up with John? I know the shop had a Plek machine so it must be a larger store. PM Songwriterfan and he should know the name of the shop.

That would likely be Norman Music Center, if I remember correctly from my time at Fort Sill.

Yep, Norman Music Center. He doesn't work there anymore, though.

I just visited with them a few weeks ago about carrying my guitar straps, and John came up during the conversation.
