Takamine PT-508
VERY reluctantly had to sell my Martin 000M outfitted with CARLOS CP1a pickup yesterday - the Grim Rent Collector was knocking....
Needed SOMETHING to play, and after picking up an old Takamine - beaten to death with a dodgy battery connection for $100 dollars, I took it home and hoped it would not sound terrible... This particular PT-508 had certainly seen better days: the lip of the sound hole is worn through to the wood at the bottom, so whoever had this thing before played it a LOT, and/or very aggressively. Look kinda cool though, those old war wounds. Now, for the sound. This thing sound bloody great! String balance is fantastic, individual notes ring out robustly and separate, GOBS of soundboard information - this is no ordinary under saddle; there's WAY more resonance coupled with string clarity. What's going on?? What is this thing?? It's not quacky at all, more like a wide bandwidth Jazz electric guitar, but with the added sound board resonance. For contrapuntal fingerstyle, this thing beats the CP-1a by a furlong. The Graph EX preamp has good EQ, too. All but extreme settings are usable, and I can see how the Exciter can add definition in a complex live setting. This is my first Takamine, and boy am I impressed. The only thing I remember about the Martin is its long scale/tight string feel and the fact that I spent 10 times as much for less guitar. Takamine rock. I have the graphX on my EF261SAN and it's a fantastic preamp with wild adjustment using the exiter.

Takamine PT-508
I bought my PT-508 brand new during a visit to Japan in the late '90s. It was love at first sight and it's been my constant companion ever since. It is now somewhat battered after 17 years of constant play, frequent gigs and numerous camping expeditions. Its balanced, crystal clear tone makes it an excellent fingerpicking guitar. I love it!

This makes me miss my Graph X equipped guitar. I will have to take out of it's case and play it for a while.
Play on. Sent from my B1-710 using Tapatalk

Still using the PT-508 on a daily basis. Last month I had the 'pleasure' of trying out a $4000 guitar that had a little more bass oomph, but otherwise, you gotta be kidding! The Takamine has a crisp mid that the boutique guitar couldn't get close to. The Takamine PT-508 is a giant killer. |

Sometimes Karma makes an appearance. Bad things happen, that’s life, but sometimes they provide an opportunity that would never have happened otherwise. Sounds like Karma was your friend.
