Sample of new dynamic microphone JZ HH1
Brought tis new mic last week. its a dynamic mic JZ HH1.
Has some nice clarity for a dynamic mic: I still use my Electro voice RE 410 most of the time hbut occasionally swicth to this one as it has its own character. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYY8BecDj-M I am glad I discovered this little mic. The guitar is my James neligan Ezra Orchestral Model. solid cedar top which i use occasionally when I busk. My favurite is the Seagull. My vocals a slightly sharp in parts on this song. Here is my fellow busker friend sammyjay using my rig; same mic but with my Seagull S6: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARn_...&nohtml5=False I did another little experimant . When the girl was singing I ran the me mic through my BSS AR133 DI box . That has a XLR input was well a a jack input. Tis gave the mic a slightly hotter signal Dave Last edited by Mr Blues; 04-06-2016 at 10:07 PM. |

They seemed pretty forgiving and rejected a lot of the background noise.

Hi Ray
Yes that what I love about the mic. Plus it's very feedback resistant. |

Just head your rendition of 'Wicked Game'. Great job, love your vocal & guitar, I love your style. Great recording. What guitar are you using? Great fingerpicking. Dave |

Hi Warbles
She certainly does. Sammy Jay should be up there she's young, pretty and has a quality voice. Dave |

Hey Dave,
How's the output of the JZ mic? The specs I looked at seem to indicate it's a pretty weak output mic -74db, where for comparison the RE-410 is about -48dB. I'm thinking the specs might be off. Does the JZ seem to have plenty of output in your opinion? Funny, but back when I was looking at other mics and the RE-410 was on my list, I had searched Youtube for the RE-410 and came across your video. I ended up buying a used one pretty much based on hearing your use of it. I didn't know you were a member here until now . |

I thought the mic sounded very good for both of you. Very natural reproduction in a noisy environment. Sammy Jay is very talented and lovely. I can't remember seeing another singer with quite so much mouth and tongue movement. But, as opera singers know, you've got to move that mouth if you want to make the big sounds. Was she classically trained?

*But, this post is about the mic... It seems to do well in both applications. Thanks for sharing. Last edited by warbles; 04-07-2016 at 08:23 PM. |

Thank you so much for the kind words! That is my first attempt at fingerpicking and I learned the song about 2 weeks ago. This is my first year at playing guitar and simultaneously singing. It's very enjoyable but look forward to more practice and improvement to the point that I can put more feeling into it. Now that I've started to fingerpick, I'm not too crazy about the dozens of other songs that I normally strum with a pick. The guitar is a Taylor 314ce with Martin/Monel/Retro strings. The software is Cubase Elements. Two mics are Audio Technica 2021 (one on the 16th fret, the other on the upper lobe above the sound hole). The vocal mic (AT 2020) sits in front of me and picks-up the guitar too. I add a tiny hint of "room sonics" (reverb), virtually no compression and run the mics thru a scarlett interface (18i20). I tweak the mix balance on the 2021 mics with about 10% offset and gives a nice stereo separation. I usually knock-out everything below 80Hz and above 15kHz with virtually no tweaking of anything in-between. Adjustments in-between are always between the range of -2 to +2 DbA (and that's a rule that I stick to). Ray

Hi MarkF
I am glad you too have the Re 410. That is my main go too microphone. I use mine with a Fethead phantom powered preamp. The JZ HH1 output isn't as hot but the clarity is good. I use both mics but the 410 is warmer and much higher in volume. Dave |
