Default NAD: '62 Bassman

I took a jaunt out this afternoon to take 3 Boss pedals to get modified at Sweet Amps near me in Hackney, and ended up putting a deposit down on this absolute beast.

It's a 1962 export model so runs on UK power natively, and it sounds as good as it looks.

A blonde Bassman is a holy grail amp for me which I never thought i'd own, and I am absolutely stoked to acquire one. I'll be picking it up next week when I grab the newly modded pedals. My neighbours now have another reason to hate me...

If you're in East London I highly recommend Sweet Amps, Jim is a top bloke, and he has some really wonderful gear in there.

Outstanding! That in one incredibly clean amplifier - I mean, good grief! It's 62 years old!!!

To find something that clean in the UK is nearly unfathomable to me... I was raised in Fullerton in the 50's and 60's, and I know a lot of folks who treasure old Fender amps; I daresay I would be quite hard pressed to find such a clean example of a Bassman of that vintage, even through my extensive network of "Fender lovers" out here...

Terrific score! Although I'm many years past the desire or feasibility of lugging such a beast around, I can still appreciate what it is, and how you must feel to find it!

Congratulations! Enjoy that thing... are you going to get a period-correct cabinet as well?

I know man, I couldn’t believe how clean it is. All original apart from new caps and a replacement back plate.

He’s got a repro blonde 2x12 he’ll throw in for £375 (about $450 in freedom units) if I want it, and I think I’m going to take him up on it as I don’t have a 4ohm cab currently.

If you don't you're crazy - that head is beyond clean, and deserves an appropriate cab...

What a cool old amp! WOW! Good for you! The Bassman is a wonderful sounding amp when you crank it up. Use earplugs to protect your ears (and so that you can't hear your neighbors pounding on the door and walls!!!)

Thankfully I have an Ox Box I can run it through or I’d be being served with an eviction notice, and maybe divorce papers lol. I think I need to get some kind of amp and cab switcher to avoid having to repatch my plexi whenever I want to switch between those two amps.

What a find! Big congrats. That amp through that 2x12 repro cabinet has to sound really sweet.

Like wow. It looks like new. Rehabbed?

I have a '65. I run it through a 210. You're right. An absolute beast.

Haven't been to East London yet. It could happen!

My brother has a Twin Reverb (1964 I think, but maybe 1965) that people will be drooling over someday. He bought it brand new and played it a few times with his band. Then the band broke up and it's been doing closet duty ever since. The last time I saw it (years ago), it looked almost brand new. I'm sure it needs new caps and a good going-through, but it will be a nice find for someone someday.

Just thought I'd share...

My 1961 Bassman. I've owned it for 34 years. The reverb unit is a reissue. They sound great together.

You will enjoy your new amp. Get a 2x12 cabinet.

Original aside from caps and a new back panel, just super clean.

He had a '64 reverb tank in there I tried to get him to sell me, but his response was, "Sorry, that's mine. I also have a blonde bassman at home that needs one..."

Finally got it home. I need to get a longer speaker cable to patch it into the Ox, because it's far too loud to play up here unattenuated.

After I got it up here, I turned the volume knob to around 5, hit the opening licks to Little Wing and felt my internal organs and windows vibrate and shift position
