New! Burner Guitars PS Model
Kyle and I have decided to build a guitar for us - just for fun. This guitar is a totally new model for us - something SMALL - along the lines of a Taylor GS Mini. We call this the "PS".
We picked up some nice wood at a great price from Hibdon Hardwoods and thought this would be a perfect time to play with some new ideas. Here are the specs (so far) Lower bout: 13.75" Upper bout: 10" Body length: 17.25" Neck scale: 23.5" All we know so far is that the sides/back are out of Cocobolo - and that it WILL have a sound port. If it turns out like we hope, we may add it to the line of guitars we offer for people who want something like a GS Mini - but with solid woods, wood binding, custom inlay, etc. Here's some photos of the little starting point:

Getting the bracing right will be a bit of a challenge on something this small - but we're excited to jump into it and see what we get!

Just remember that a larger top is stiffer perpedicular to the grain, by nature, than a smaller one.

If you mean thickness of the plate I agree with you if you are talking width of the lower bout then I am not sure that I agree with you. |

I'm saying that a top for an 18" jumbo is inherently stiffer, across the grain, than that of a parlor, both of equal thickness. It's counter intuitive but I've tested in mathematically and emperically.

Nice! I just checked out your website.. the work you and Kyle are doing is very, very superb. If I had the money.. and skills to warrant it (just started out), I would be ordering one up real quick before you two get too famous and your prices go up

Wow! Your going with a 23.5" scale? I've never gone that short and am interested to see how it works for you. Good Luck-hope it works out great!

Check out the Taylor GS Mini. It is a 23.5" scale. I've played one and it feels quite nice. Interesting tidbit from Chris at LMI. I was asking him about getting a serviced fingerboard. He informed me that a 23.5" scale is just a 25.4" scale where you lop of the first fret. (albeit you add another fret at the other end to stay with 20 frets - but hopefully you get the idea)

For this first go at our PS Model we have chosen to not do a cutaway. In future builds a florentine cutaway could be done if we choose to offer it.
