Nice. I love those Recording Kings. Again I was just trying to illicit a smile when I created the post title. My favorite guitars costs under $400 and rival anything I’ve played that costs 7 times as much. Enjoy!

Getting in just under the wire, I picked up this solid-top '30s Slingerland Songster for $675 a few months ago. I believe it was made by Regal.

The problem? Word is out, and most people who've purchased them through the years are hanging onto them.

I second the emotion on the Yamaha FG-830. Not a better dread (IMHO) on the market at that pricepoint.

The original Epi Madterbilts from the late 90s/early 2000s are really great as well.

One more vote for the FG-830. Mine has the brown burst top that I really, really like.

I’ve wanted that same model and color combo for a long time.

2005 Epiphone Masterbilt AJ-500M I bought new in 2005. A little tight on the string spacing, but better than the Yamaha I have. These are by far my cheapest guitars.

The story is below if you care to read it. I lady I bought it back from passed away 5 months ago, so I'm lucky I own it.

Both my Voyage Air VAD-04 and Martin 000X1AE were under $500 when I purchased them and I love 'em both. Simply terrific guitars.

That reminds me of a beach on the Pembrokeshire coast. Guess it’s not too far from there!

About 2 days drive in a campervan. I'll be in Pembrokeshire at the start of August.

All cheap guitars for me, at the moment FG800 and Ibanez AC340. Both very nice sounding guitars bought used, I'd be embarrassed to say what I paid for the two.

This is a fun thread, and timely, because I am looking for a cheap guitar. And I mean cheap... not $700, not $400, but closer to $100.

My wife has to go on a month-long trip for family stuff, but doesn't want to be without a guitar while she is there. I guess she could fly with her guitar, but that would mean buying a hard case, so there's $100 down, plus baggage fees... So, maybe $150 to take her guitar? And it is a $200 Orangewood guitar, so spending $150 just to take it along seems nuts. (Yes, in our family, the "good" guitar is a $200 Orangewood, haha.)

Buying another guitar that she can leave there for when she goes back at other times makes more sense to me. Some family members may also get use out of it.

So, what's a guitar that is no more than $150, easy to get at GC or delivered by Amazon in a major metro area, and won't make you hate yourself if you had to play it for a few weeks?

The Jasmine S34C posted earlier looks like a candidate at $120.

Anything else to consider?
