Ry & Roseanne concert: what was John playing?
Our son and his wife took us (a surprise!) to see Cash amd Cooder at the Chicago Theater last night. Terrific show.
But what was that beauty John Leventhal was playing? The acoustic one he used for 4 of every 5 songs? If you were there, let me know. The show was a tribute to Jonnny, all the songs being his. Ring of Fire was positively psychedelic.

Quote:
Without seeing a pic of Leventhal's guitar that night, there's no way to be certain of this... But in an issue of AG mag a couple of years ago, he said that for about 15 years now, he's been playing a Collings OM1 onstage...with a Schertler undersaddle pickup and a Fishman soundhole pickup... The article just happened to be on the topic of "Tips On Tone"...

Same Collings I saw him use at Carnegie Hall when they did The River And The Thread. He’s one of my absolute favorite player/writer/arrangers. Howard Emerson

Looked the same shape as the various OM1s I see when I do an image search for the Collings. Last night's was either a very pale and subtle burst or a vintage finish on spruce.
