I guess that explains why my twin 2 years old beat the heck out of my laminate cedar top epiphone pro 1 classical guitar, and not a gouge on her! It's cover in generous layers of varnish, in fact the whole bed room stank like varnish for months when I brought her home

I'm looking now. They seem like they only haver the A frame style. I'll check them out though. They look pretty decent .Thanks

Spruce is a little more tougher than spruce, but not by much. If it dented yoru cedar guitar that bad, it will also damage your spruce guitar

Engelmann Spruce seems to be softer than Sitka. I used it for my last guitar build and I can ding it with a fingernail. I used to joke that I was sent a balsa wood piece instead.

Engelmann sure is "dingable." I got a few marks on the Worland just from fingernails alone. But the lush and rich tone even when played softly makes it all worthwhile for me.
