Congratulations, this is a big deal. I don't know of any pick makers getting an endorsement from a full line instrument maker.

Neo, thanks. You've been bugging me long enough LOL.

Anyway, this will likely come first in our flame line, and we're thinking something along the lines of the BC TPR or the similar Dunlop Primetone shape. It will likely be a while -- I would say summer at the earliest -- but we have a green light on it to go forward and already have the CAD machining image in our files.

Neo, question. When I play mando, I'm using playing a thickness around 1.4-1.5 mm. Is that about your range? Also, if I may ask, what mando pick(s) are you playing these days?

Thanks again for your encouragement and being a pain in the butt (jk). I'm a mando player myself and have been playing our red and flame models on mando for about a year. One of the wonderful things about a casein pick on a mando is it really smoothes out the harshness on the top end, so you still get the bite, but without the shrillness and with an incredible amount of warmth. Anyway, we'll get there.

Another VERY exciting development for CLP is, after more than two years and thousands of dollars in R&D, we are on the verge of solving the buffing and polishing stages on the casein models. The last few tortoise models we shipped just this week look like gemstones made of glass. Just drop-dead gorgeous -- and I'm a driven perfectionist. If you knew how this material was to work with, you would be stunned and would have great pity for us. It's only because I am such a stubborn SOB that I've hung in long enough to solve it. It was either that, or jump off a cliff.

Anyway, this is on schedule to be solved by June or July, and when it is, watch out. Not only will these be the best performing casein picks in the industry, they will also be the most flawlessly beautiful, like blown glass. And we have enough red and flame material in the barn to last for many years. To say we're excited would be an understated. Thanks so much for hanging with us, folks.

Harry, thanks so much. You've been with us every step of the way, and it's folks like you that have inspired me to keep my nose to the grindstone till really great things started to happened. Thanks again.

The Eastman thing just stunned me. It just kinda came up in conversation, and they said, "Sure, why not?" Wonderful group of folks over there.

BTW, some other cool stuff happening at CLP. We're on the verge of inking a couple artists endorsement deals. These are serious players, names you will know. Also, we are in very early discussions with a very big name. We honesty can't believe these people are even talking to us, but I have to assume it's my enduring charm and boyish good looks. Anyhow, as you can imagine, such discussions are years in the making and, as Artie Fufkin said in SPINAL TAP, are about relationships: "I'm talkin' about a relationship here." Besides, I have no desire to do anything with anyone, no matter how big the name, unless they are completely nuts about our products. We're 100% product-driven and always will be, and I don't care how much money is or isn't on the table; if they don't love our stuff, the conversation ends right there. Not interested. These folks have been extremely kind to us, and if nothing else we've made a couple new friends, which to me has always been the best part of the business anyway.

Finally, below is a picture of our stunning new flame line. I will have more of these available in a week or two, in small quantities. We had hoped to have them done by the end of Feb, but this might slip into the first week in March. We will also have a tri in the same material. The last time we had tris in this stuff, they sold out in less than thirty minutes. You think these things LOOK good? Good God, you should hear them. The tone is unearthly, without a doubt the best-sounding pick I've ever played with the exception of genuine TS. Frankly, folks, I'd play a pick that looked like a dog turd if the performance was world-class; that it looks as good as it sounds is one of those happy accidents that have seemed to continually fall in our path since the beginning.

I am accepting NO prepayments on these, but if you'd like to get on a waiting list for notification, please email me directly at charmedlifepicks @ gmail. I expect these to sell very fast. Ain't she pretty?

I've primarily been using a 1.5 mm white wegen mando pick for both guitar and mando. Love the tone and feel that I get on both, and it saves me from having to have multiple picks around.

Although I do use my CLP black tri for flatpicking as well. Hoping you'll roll out the CLP mando pick in black as well.

Somebody's got keep on you to keep you in line, Scott--just doing my part!!

Congrats! That is really awesome news. And yes, the reds are great picks. Ive had to chase people down when they borrow mine to play. They always try to walk off with it [emoji6] (actually lost a tortoise that way)

Best of luck for continued successs. You really are making great picks. Its not marketing hype.

Duple, appreciate that so much. Thanks for taking the time to post. The red, and now the flame, are remarkable picks by any measuring stick.

I think what people might find interesting about the CLP story is that I had no intention of going into the pick business, or any business for that matter. I'm a full-time English prof and CL was a total accident. The old saying "Necessity is the mother of invention" definitely applies here. For decades I had been searching for a replacement for the genuine TS I still own. When I discovered these new materials, I knew I had found the answer. I started making a few for myself and then people began asking me to make one for them, then for their friends, then for family members, etc., all the sudden I'm in the frickin' guitar pick business. I had NO desire.

Our philosophy is a little different than others too. I don't look at profit when I design a pick. I make the best pick I can out of that material, then I decide if it's sellable. If not, then I learned something anyway. And I have NO DESIRE to ever make cheap picks with huge gross profit in them. Never. If anything, we are going up-market, not down. I can tell you, folks: There are a lot of vendors out there selling picks that have a material cost of less than ten cents per pick, and they sell these picks for $5.00, $10.00 and even $15.00. Our material cost alone in our brown series is very close to that last number -- and that's before machining, sanding, finishing, polishing, packaging, shipping (which we always pay for), etc. I have no interest in making something that I wouldn't be proud to play onstage or put in the hands of the best acoustic guitarist on the planet. Because my first customer was myself, and still is.

I'll leave you with this. Some of you have seen this vid. This is an Eastman slope dread with me playing our tortoise .75 mm thick teardrop. No, it isn't marketing hype. Don't believe it? Take the Charmed Life Challenge. Play it for 35 days and return it if dissatisfied. The reds and the flames do not come back, ever, I can tell you. Thanks, sm

That is the story of many accidental success stories. I went to college with the guy that created CD Baby, because he needed a way to sell his CD. Then his friends asked if hed help sell their CDs. Fast forward & he sells to DiscMakers for millions.

Good for him. And sounds like he got out before streaming really took over. I've always considered the Beatles giving up on the CD and moving to streaming as the death knell of the CD. If the #1 seller of CDs in the world gives up the ghost, it's just a matter of time.

I was really inspired studying the business story of Apple and Steve Jobs. When they made the iPod he insisted on a metal case, which cost a fortune and drove pricing way up, and which the board fought him tooth and nail to the end. But he was right. His philosophy was always to make the best widget he could, then figure out what to sell it for. This philosophy was and still is completely antithetical and ***-backwards to every known marketing principle, but on the back of this principle Apple built one of the biggest and most profitable companies on the planet.

thanks again, dup,

scott

We have had to once again put the red teardrop on "out of stock" status. We have lots of blanks on the shelf, but I can't turn these fast enough. This will improve, we hope, by fall of 2018.

We loved Eastman guitars before Charmed Life Picks was even a glimmer in my eye, so for them to come forward and tell us they love our picks and play them almost every day in the shop was, and still is, a real shocker for us.

We are working on another batch of our casein flame models. Wish I could make these faster.

We hope to make these available to order in ship by the last week in March.

thanks,
scott

We're proud to say that Eastman has recognized us as their pick of choice. Considering how much I love that company and its products, this is the deepest honor.
