Whew. That was liberating!

As long as your steak still has some moo left in it then that’s ok. If it’s well done then there is no forgiveness

I also used to place my pinky on the soundboard. But then the motorcycle I was riding decided to make friends with a tree. I broke said pinky in multiple places. They managed to almost repair it (not normal by any means) but I tried to play without the resting pinky - and guess what - it worked. I have tried since to rest it but it just doesn’t feel right now.

I used to hold a pick wrong, between my thumb and middle finger. I just realized this morning that I don't do that anymore, and it happened all on its own.

Default What do YOU do wrong, but it still works?

A whole bunch of stuff:
  • I don't like 1-3/4" or wider necks on any 6-(steel)string guitar - prefer 1-5/8" if I can get it;
  • I don't like pre-war "Louisville Slugger" acoustic necks, or "59-style" on an electric;
  • I don't like anything smaller than a dread as a stage guitar - and nothing beats a good 18" (or larger) archtop as an all-around instrument;
  • I've been fingerpicking/crosspicking 4-string banjo for the last 45+ years;
  • I use "Highgrass" (gDGBE) tuning exclusively on my 5-string, and only a thumbpick;
  • I use flatwounds on all my electrics and, until recently, nothing lighter than 12's on any guitar;
  • I fingerpick thumb/middle/ring at all times, with the pick held against my palm with my index finger (I understand George Harrison also used this technique);
  • I hold down both the low E and A strings with my thumb when playing extended chord voicings (another reason I love slim necks);
  • I love a good sunburst, especially on the larger flattops I prefer;
  • I still use my first-gen Ovation Custom Balladeer acoustic/electric to play out - and I get the most natural sound from any UST pickup by running through the low-gain input of a conventional electric-guitar amp (no quack, no brittleness, and no ice-pick highs, thanks to the natural rolloff above ~5kHz)
  • Analog amplification/effects all the way - and only a tube amp when tone is job #1...
Just waiting now for the torch-&-pitchfork mob...

I play my A chord with only my index finger. But most of the time I do A2 as I prefer the voicing.

I love playing with a cut capo and do it as much as possible when doing church songs.

I use 3 fingers on my open A chord. Looking down on the second fret, I see middle, index, and ring fingers, in that order. That way I can manipulate through A chords easily, like A, Amaj7th, A7th (2 variations w/pinkie), and Asus4. And a few more I don't know the names of, just the fingers. And it makes a lot of chord transitions very quick and easy by keeping at least one finger on the fretboard as much as possible.

And I go out of my way to avoid playing a traditional non-barre B chord.

I fingerpick. And I often trail my right pinkie on the pickguard below the soundhole. And the left (fretting) hand drives the train. The right fingers KNOW where they better be. Or ELSE.

And I don't own a Martin, a vehicle, or a watch.

I did own a watch once, but it broke.

But now I know the location of every clock in town.

And as a senior, I get to ride the bus for half fare.

Oh, and my main guitars aren’t even made of wood.

Clearly, I’ve no business calling myself a guitar player.
The Martin 016-NY gets you a pass.

Okay, okay, alright already. I don't ever use my index finger for open E, A or G chords.

But there's nothing wrong with that!
