Imagine being at a crossing, late for an appointment, and waiting for all THAT to go by!

Acutally, I do usually have a hard time falling asleep.
My trouble seems to stem from me not getting tired until I've been awake for 20+ hours. In fact, I love the feeling of being really tired and succumbing to sleep. I actually think I might be *addicted* to that sensation - and therefore resist sleep until I'm really really tired. I've tried taking melatonin, which induces a *little* drowsiness, but often not enough that I can fall asleep. I've tried getting onto a schedule where I wake up every day before 6:00am, but I still often don't get sleepy until 2am. After several days of 4 hour sleep, I'll get sleepy earlier, but then I'm "recharged" and it'll take several days before I can get to sleep at a reasonable time again. I've tried exercising in the morning, exercising in the evening - and both morning and night - no improvement. I've tried meditating. I've tried listening to all kinds of soft and mellow things, such as classical music, Bob Ross videos, go-to-sleep audiotracks spoken softly in English as well as other languages. I've tried the military techniques for training yourself to fall asleep. I've NOT tried narcotics, but I'll admit a few drinks definitely helps. Once I'm asleep, I rarely have a problem staying asleep, and usually get 7-9 hours no problem. Would love to hear some suggestions. |

I never have trouble falling to sleep but I wake up every hour, every night, for many years. Something I started a few months ago is to have a cup of 100% chamomile tea every night before bed. I think it may help a little but I've read it helps other people.

I'm just like Drew,
I've always been bad at sleeping - easy to drift off when I hit the sheets, but wake up every hour or so. Been like that since i was a kid. I usually go to bed about 1 a.m. and about 5 - 6 a.m. is my "worrying" hour. I listen to the radio or make up stories in my head, etc to self distract. Those sheep - I got to 1837, then lost count so , ....1,2,3 ..... edit, Oh I always take a mild sleeping pill at night - non habit forming - I've been taking them for years"! (Yeah, its a joke).

I’ve always had trouble falling asleep since getting out of the Navy where I worked the night shift while underway (but not when we were in port) so my circadian rhythm is shot. This was further reinforced when I got out and went to college and pulled all nighters in my junior and senior year. I literally have to be exhausted to fall asleep. Wine helps.
