This thread makes me hungry!

I don't even cook when NOT starting from scratch.

My career started off as a dishwasher, worked my way up to cook and eventually chef and food service manager. Food is what I do. With the exception of cheese eggs and milk We are now a no animal protein home

Tonight’s dinner was cauliflower sweet potato pancakes with fresh made apple sauce, and tomato soup.....yummy

We've made italian sausage before. Its a lot of work so you need to make a lot at a time to make it worthwhile. But the quality is better as you control the inputs.

We grow our own veg, so we use that mostly - getting to the end of our potatoes, onions, garlic and carrots now - had a good year for green beans, peas, asparagus, leeks, carrots, broccoli, squash, courgette/marrow, chillies and sweet potatoes, and a poor year for tomatoes and sweet peppers. Good year for pears and apples as well.

We eat more fish than meat, prepared by Nanny Jane but I like to cook largely Greek/Mediterranean style dishes, with fasolakia (green beans in garlic, onions and tomato) Arni Kleftiko (lamb joint slow cooked with Desiree potatoes), chicken harissa ( chicken roasted over mixed veggies, and very occasionally a small piece of fillet steak with saute new potatoes.
I can also knock up a fair "British" style Bolognese with minced lamb, and loads of veggies and some chillie.

On occasions , my wife will buy ready made pies which we have with home cooked veg, or a quiche and salad.
This has reminded me that I haven't made my recipe for paella for ages !

We have a great (Greek) fish and chip shop nearby as well.

We used to dine out at least once a month but the after effects of my 2017 illness makes this pretty pointless.

I enjoy cooking. However, after 2017, I enjoy eating somewhat less.

Have I done this in the past? Yup. Did the garden thing. Also, we went for a season or so with fresh goats milk. We drank it and made our own soap. Raised chickens and ate their eggs. Raised, shot, gutted our own pigs in the backyard too. Best pork in the world.

This was back when my wife stayed at home and she home schooled the kids. She went back to work, and now we eat way too many meals out of bags. In any case, if the world goes to total chaos, we have a pretty good idea as to what to do.

I guess we were foodies before it was a fad. My wife's German mother was educated as a chef in France, worked there, Holland and then came to US as a chef. More rooted in off the boat poor family, my side always gardened and made stuff from scratch.

One neat thing is the way my mother in law has travelled just to truly learn a cuisine. Up until a recent trip we've done many where we rent a home, shop locally and even fish locally to best know and enjoy foods from other places.

My wife's and her mom's skills are simply amazing. I'm more functional or at least not one who pursues more complicated baking. My 3 kids are very good in the kitchen.

One of the best food things we've done re making food was encourage and then require the kids make food. In the early school days it was a chore but I think it really helped them like good food vs junky stuff.

Never in my family. What I meant is recalling TV shows and food personalities become a thing and see it be how we ate to begin with. Add the gear becoming such a thing.

In the UK we have this dietary advice of "five a day" which is five portions of fruit and veg daily.

This is an NHS Video - pretty old - but makes the point.
