Lyle Mays has passed away...

Very sad. He was a huge part of my musical aspirations. I love his interviews. He was a genius. This is truly a shock.

Oh wow....what a surprise, and a reminder of my own mortality as well. I went to college with Lyle. My freshman year I was a music major, as was he. He already was blowing everyone away with his talent. I can remember him "holding court" and the rest of us just watching with our mouths hanging open. I switched majors my sophomore year but continued to check his career out from time to time as he progressed. A lot of talent there. Sorry to hear of his passing.

Before I dove into the older stuff like Miles, Trane, Dizzy, etc., Pat Metheny was much of what I listened to. The past couple of days I've been reacquainting myself with his stuff. Pat, Lyle, the rest of the band...just so much talent. Stands up to the test of time too.
