This is looking scrumptious indeed. Wonder if Ben would let me trade in my Jupitar on a new Nautilair?

Maybe at the son of BIG(er) next year.... You have a special eye and ear for great guitars. It was such a gift to spend time with you and the others at the original BIG last March. And this guitar and Nemoman's Arum are going to be special this year. As well as Cigarfan's Sexaur and all the rest of the great guitars that the luthiers are bringing...

Sometimes the need for a new vehicle and house repairs top the guitars...

Jeez, putting a new car and house repairs above guitars, who are you??? I still think you should buy that husband an airline ticket and drag him along, we will keep him entertained and happy! If nothing else we will put him to work serving BBQ and cake! HAHA

Default Wilborn Guitars shop visit

So I had the good fortune to be able to visit Ben at his shop yesterday to pick up my Arum guitar that ha has completed. You can see details on that on my build thread for the Arum.

By while there I got to take a peek at the status of the Nautilox. The box has been closed and is now ready for binding. The BRW for this guitar is really amazing--I predict that our buddy, Tom will be extremely pleased with it.

Ben suprised me and offered me an apprenticeship yesterday while I was there at the shop (I heartily accepted), and and he assigned me my first duties. It was a bold maneuver on his part but he had me start on the 3D soundport for the Nautilox using only a mallet and putty knife (he felt a large, sharp chisel would be beyond me at this point)!

So here's a pic of me getting started working on my first Wilborn guitar!

You all will just have to wait and see how it turned out--stay tuned!

I think for the first strike, you want the putty knife much more vertical. ;-)

So Mr. Wilborn has gotten a good start on the bindings. I love how he widened the binding around the curve of the 3-D sound hole:

All those curves are just wondrous! The lines and the "swoop" at the sound hole are just works of art! Loving this build!!! Thanks for the additional pics, Tom.
