The new Collings 00-14 fret is one sweet little guitar ***new video added 2/22***
I took receipt of this Collings 001-14T this weekend - it is Sitka over Honduran Mahogany and has the thin nitro gloss finish (as opposed to the new satin option). Every since the fine folks at Collings announced this guitar at NAMM last month I've been chomping at the bit to get my hands on this gem of a guitar that now fills a much sought after gap in their line up - a 00 fourteen fret guitar. The icing on the cake for me is the 1 3/4" nut width and 2 5/16" string spacing plus a 24.75" short scale neck, all in the super light build of the Traditional line. I have been informed by the Collings team that they have redesigned the neck design of the Traditional line guitars to improve the weight/balance of the neck, but this also smoothens out the high frequencies. After just 24 hours of playing this guitar, here are my impressions:
- The guitar is very, very light and similar to the OM1JLs I've tried. - The guitar is very loud and reverberates wonderfully already. The Collings Traditional guitars I've owned (in particular my current 01T) develop this amazing projection and openness when they start to break in and bring them to another level. I can't imagine how much more awesome this thing will be as it settles and breaks in. - The neck feels like it has a little bit more shoulder to it in the first few frets, at least compared to my 01T. Supposedly the neck shape hasn't changed with the redesign. Either way, it feels great. - This guitar is very warm with probably the most relaxed mid/upper mid range out of all the Collings I've tried/owned. The low and low mids are very full. I don't know if it's the new neck design, the 00 proportions or both but for those looking to get a little bit closer to a more classic Martin tone this may be right up your alley. - The attack/immediacy of the notes is not as quick as other models but the Collings articulation and clarity is still there. The top end definitely feels smoother. This is probably the area that will take the most acclimation for me as I fingerpick with no nails and am used to that super fast/immediate attack with Collings. - I don't typically use a pick but this thing sounds awesome with a flat pick. I think the smoother top end is part of this. - Build quality is superb and what you would expect from Collings. Even with this no frills 18 style guitar, there is beauty in it's simplicity and the Collings execution is second to none. On to the pics: Here is the new 001-14T (bottom) alongside my 01T. Interestingly enough both of these guitars were the first production models in their respective lines, both debuting at NAMM in their respective years. And a short (and unfortunately rather sloppily performed) video that I hope captures some of what I describe above. Strung with John Pearse SL600s. Recorded with a Samsung Galaxy S10e + Shure MV88+.: Thanks everyone! A special shout out to The Music Emporium as well! Thanks for posting and congratulations!
My favorite guitar is a Collings OM1VN (Vintage Now). I was unable to get along with a standard Collings OM and OOO I previously owned because the more pronounced v-neck neck profiles bothered my fretting hand/wrist, but the VN neck works beautifully for me. I have not tried one of the Traditional models, but I wonder if the neck profile is similar to the Vintage Now specs. I'd love to try one of the new OO Collings and also the O as I'm yearning for a smaller-bodied guitar.

Very nice, guitar, I'm hoping to get a 002H before too long. I would have liked the traditionalversion but having small hands I think the T neck
will be too large.

Wow. Thanks for the demo. I'm another one who is curious about this guitar.
Great tone, a fuller sound than many 00's out there. Nice playing too. |

Thank you for the Demo!
Beautiful Collings guitar and the silking on the top absolutely killer. The mahogany Body is most pleasing to the eye. I have recently become a HUGE fan of 00 sized guitars no matter the name on the headstock, Particularly mahogany bodied 00 guitars. It seems as though the 00 bodies have that balanced sweetness not abundantly common in other body sizes. Blues |

Beautiful Collings with its signature clean, balanced and complex tone. I’m going to play an EIR version in a few days. I’m anxious to see the difference between the 00 and OM models.
