Tommy Emmanuel sale on Reverb
I'm not sure if this goes here or in the classified section, but I wanted to get the word out that a pile of Tommy Emmanuel guitars and other things went on sale this morning in Reverb. I am not affiliated in any way, just passing the word along.

The 1946 D-18 could have been a birth year guitar but it is sold. Dang.

Looks like some of it went for pretty reasonable prices for kit linked to such an esteemed guitarist.

Reasonable prices? Maybe so. They are hard to figure prices, that's for sure. Tommy plays a Maton TE Personal. That model sells for around $5000 AUD in Oz and about $7000 in the US. So the $4300ish is a screaming bargain. On the other hand, there are the three EBG TE models (808, cutaway 808, and dred), which go for between $2500 and $2900 AUD here or about $3500 in the US. This makes that $4300 AUD very expensive for a second-hand guitar, even with a famous signature.
So which are they? On Reverb they are listed as "TE 808". Maton don't make a "TE 808". Maton makes an EBG808 TE (which sells new for betwen one and two thousand less than the Reverb used price), and the TE Personal (which sells new for around two thousand more than the used guitars on Reverb). You can't tell by looking at them either, they are almost identical. One model comes off the main line, the other out of the custom shop, but they both have spruce tops and Queensland Maple back, sides, and neck. According to the Maton website, the TE Personal has a rosewood bridge and fretboard, while the EBG 808 uses ebony, but I'm not sure if this is always the case - especially so with the TE Personal model as each one of these is made individually in the custom shop. So the question remains: are they a bit dear? Or are they a screaming, take-no-prisoners bargain? Well, what does it matter? Either way they are all sold now, and the money goes to good causes.
