er, the first picture is, or is based on a National, not a Dobro.
The second picture shows a metal bodied reso, and a uke - neither of which feature the spider cone of the Dobro. I have a Model 27 Deluxe which has the Dobro logo on the headstock but, sadly as it was made by Gibson , it had to be reworked to correct the factory built intonation problems, which involve re-routing the cone seat, and , thankfully Beard supplies a n off centre spider to further correct the build faults on Gibson made Dobro. It also has a Beard cone as the original sounded awful. A true Dobro design has the spider upward pointing cone and a National style has the reversed cone with the "biscuit wooden" assembly. We haven't actually seen a real Dobro yet. |

Here's mine, as it was just finished by Tom Warner of Appalachian Resonator:
Tom build a good instrument, customized to your specs. D

A few on the bench in the build section I decided to add two more Resonators to a total of four. This one will have a custom cover I did to resemble an Apple pie. I will name it "American Pie". Might even cut a slice out of it below the Bridge area for an interesting look. These are both Sinker cypress to go along with the two Loblolly.

This is my workhorse that I've had for quite a while - a basic Dobro, D-60, 1987. Below, it's the one on the left (old photo). The one on the right is a Model 27 Deluxe that I previously owned.
This old photo shows a Gibson made Dobro Hound Dog I used to own as well as the D-60. There's also a POS pawnshop find that I wasted some money on. |

This 1933 Model 19 Dobro was purchased new by my father-in-law. When he passed I was fortunate enough to have him leave it to me.

For the sake of reference, this is a Dobro Model 19: In fact the guitar in your photo is not a Dobro at all. Sometimes known as "faux-bro" guitars, they were made in large numbers by Harmony and Regal in the 30s and 40s and most of them had no resonator under the coverplate, just silver paint applied on the (usually birch plywood) top, as it would appear to be the case with your guitar. |

This shows my Dobro (Gibson) Model 27 Deluxe Square neck with Beard Cone and correcting Spider.
In the centre is my mahogany Weissenborn made by Peter Gosden in Petersfield Surrey, and on the right my Style "O" Deluxe - recently swapped for my Estralita (as yet nu-photographed). . Last edited by Silly Moustache; 08-12-2015 at 10:05 AM. |

Ok, so I'm a pedant - So, as no-one seems to unnerstan' the difference between a National Biscuit style reso, and a Dobro style spider cone - her is one of each to demonstrate. Last edited by Silly Moustache; 08-15-2015 at 10:29 AM. |

On the left is my new (to me) National wooden (well plywood) bodied Estralita and on the right is my Gibson made Dobro Model 27 (also plywood and with a soundwell). Thanks for prompting me to take them into the garden (backyard). |
