Taylor 214e Upgraded Electronics
I just purchased a used 2013 214e. The pickup system has obviously been replaced. The control knob holes on the guitar top have been professionally plugged with color matched dowels and controls for the pickup are now accessed through the sound hole.
Has anyone seen a modification like this? I was told it was done by Taylor.

Definitely not done by Taylor.
There used to be a thing called the TruPlug system, and now days there is Shaw Woodshop which makes expression system plugs and wooden end-pin plates. If someone has done you the favor of removing the ES-1 and you have a wooden end plate rather than the battery compartment, I'd be a happy camper. Now you can easily experiment with different pickup systems! Share pics if you have any. |

Hi Joe, As Cybershot has posted (^), can you take a pic of the controls? That may help determine what the pickup is.

I値l give it a try a little later. Battery compartment is still there though.
Personally I値l probably never use the pickup but it would be nice to have more info. Thanks.

If you can put your phone inside the soundhole and take a picture of top it may help as well. |

If the battery compartment is there then perhaps the pickup was wired to the existing jack which is a nice touch, however not as easy to swap to a new pickup.

Here it is through the sound hole and the plugs that were used to replace the original controls. I値l loosen the strings in a few days when I replace them. Don稚 have my extras on hand at the moment.

Looks like they replaced the sensors with a UST. You can tell if you plug it in.
