Default Martin Custom....

No not "a" Martin Custom, MY Martin Custom.

After a lifelong relationship of mediocre quality with the keyboard, 20 months ago I finally put my mind to it and took up the guitar. With ferocity. My 61 year old hands are complaining a little but Advil is cheap.

And with it came the inevitable search for the ideal guitar. Went through quite a few not too expensive guitars to find out what I liked. (A few have Reverbed their way out of the collection again) That it was to be acoustic showed early on. A cheap Ibanez... a Richwood parlor for travel. A D16 Martin off Craigslist. Liking the smaller body a brand new 000 15M Street Master. Love the feel of that instrument.

Then I discovered the "Hybrid" or "Crossover" and the fact that nylon is, to me, a lot more civilized than steel. So I got a used Martin 000C-Nylon. But I'm not playing classical.... I'm playing Beatles and Floyd.... But, with the Martin Magnifico strings I'm getting a really nice sound out of it. At open mics musicians of a much higher caliber come and ask me what "that" is.... As an aside I got a Cordoba C-9 to take with me on my work travels... THAT, for the money, is a VERY nice sounding and playing guitar especially with the Magnificos on it....

But, I do like the sound, feel and look of that mahogany. Sooooo, I asked the nice folks at Martin to make me a OOOC-Nylon just like the one I have out of mahogany. I can't WAIT to put my hands on it. Something tells me that it's going to be my "Trigger"...... It's been 4 months, hopefully the wait won't be much longer.

As a very interesting side note.... The Cordoba has a nut that is just over 1/16" inch narrower than the 1-7/8" of the Martin.... And I find it a HAIR nicer to play at that width... So I asked if Martin would make the nut accordingly. I found it surprising that they said they "weren't set up for that" and referred my to a nearby luthier that works on Martins. (I live 25 minutes from the Martin factory....)

It appears I may not have a high enough post count to do that yet....
