Smile My Guitar...

I've owned my Martin D-35 - which I bought new - since 1972. It is a wonderful sounding guitar! At the time I bought it, I was unaware that I was a person with GAS...I have since succumbed to GAS...It is terminal for me.

I still have my high school guitar, a ‘73 Guild D-35, that I bought used at Chuck Levin’s in DC in 1975. I saved money from two newspaper delivery routes to buy it.

Default What is the longest time you have owned a specific guitar?

The guitar that I’ve possessed the longest is a very small Mexican nylon string guitar that I received as a gift about 58 years ago. It was already pretty old when I got it. It is still playable.

My "1960s style" Gibson J-45 was the guitar I've owned the longest at just about 5 years. It was my church service guitar... great in a mix and in support of a choir. As I started to do more flatpicking of fiddle tunes and less and less strumming, I also played it less and less, because it was NOT a flatpicking guitar.

I sold it to another forum member last year with no regrets.

As far as others in my possession, my 2012 D/PW is going on 3+ years with me now and I suspect I'll take that one to the end.

As far as acoustic guitars go, the longest I've had a guitar was a '64 J-45 that I owned for about 18 years. Of my current acoustics, I've had my HD-28 for 6 years.

I have a '67 Gibson ES335 that I have owned for 42 years.

I've had my F-212 since August, 1965, so that makes 55 years. Probably older than a lot of members here. Two other long timers, 45 years and 40 years.

An old-ish Gibson knock-off made by Ventura. Bought it at a flea market in the early 70s for $20 or so. Had it for 45 years.

My Gibson SG was bought for me by my Grandmother and parents in the early to mid seventies when I was in either grade school or junior high. Can't remember when. I still have my first electric, a Fender knock off that I go when in 4th or 5th grade.

I also have a cheap Concerto acoustic that I got in 8th grade and a Camelot that I got in high school. They both need work.

I also have an Indiana Scout that I purchased in 2007 and still playing it today. Along with the SG.

45 years for me. I still have my first guitar, a Hoshimoto nylon string that I bought from a friend in 1975 for $20.
