I worked on the computer on some other stuff while the halftime show played out. I couldn't tell you anything about it. When the game came back on, then I finished up my computer work and continued watching.
I know from the past not to expect anything from these halftime shows. Am I getting old? Absolutely I am getting old. I still like music but my experience from past Super Bowl shows has taught me not to expect anything that is going to appeal to me. I didn't even give this one a chance. - Glenn

You have to start at the beginning....the NFL has a major problem. The fan base is dwindling, the primary demographic is shrinking and they can’t figure out how to attract a new generation to the game.
So, for halftime they get Adam Levine (my wife and daughter gasped when he took off his shirt) and supplement it with two additional musicians that appeal to a different crowd. My daughter (24) thinks Travis Scott is great (Kardashian connection, right?). But, as informed as she is, had no clue who Big Boi was. You put an artist on the single biggest stage of the year, knowing he has limited fan knowledge, give him one song...what do you expect the masses will say. It was not a good show. I was there the night Prince blew up the stadium and I agree—best show ever. |

Didn't watch any of it. The game either.
Not familiar with any of the music. Don't do pop. |

In the place where we were, the reaction to the show was probably typical of a lot of places in America. Everything from apathy to dismay to what we were doing which is making fun of it. "Big Boi"
That there's funny stuff, I don't care who ya' are.

I think we're getting old. I would like to see a classic rock band up there ... or any good guitar oriented band. But I think it's about getting the young teeny boppers tuning into the show.
I watched a total of about 2 minutes of the half time show ... broken up into about four 30 second segments. Turned the channel to Three's Company instead. |

I think Maroon 5 did just as good as Maroon 5 could.
They pyrotechnics was flipping awesome though. |

I'm no big McCartney fan, and don't claim his performance was anything real special, but ages ago when he did the half-time show, was I ever surprised to see my old bandmate playing with him! Yeah, Brian Ray was all guitar, all the time. I guess if you stick with it, sometimes you do OK!

I think that any time they flood the field with a crowd to provide support you're actually compromising the second half - but hey, that's just me. I think I understand why it was in a dome: less chance of getting buzzed by drones. Yes, the world has gotten that weird. How they got the trash off the turf so quick after the halftime festivities still eludes me though.
As for drawing a new demographic, this is the NFL we're talking about. They want to attract people with money. With sports betting now legal in many states, I'd think that you'd still see an older demographic tuning in with their phones on to follow the stats/monitor their PayPal and any kids in the stands are going to be there spending their parents' money or trying to make their own streaming on Instagram or YouTube. As for the "talent," as far as the Millennials or anybody who watches "The Voice" knows Adam Levine is "established" as a Big Wig in the recording industry. Heck, they probably think he's old since he's been around for well over a decade now! As for Big Boi - no comment. A lot of his content actually tripped the censors; it was conspicuous when the entire audio feed cut out for several seconds. Personally, I feel like there's still a demand for the "older" music (mostly because TPTB currently in charge are in their 40s-50s and pushing what THEY love) but the original artists are either dead, or worse just not photogenic enough for the kiddies. Give it a couple of years and we'll see tribute bands up there and "vintage" footage splashed on the jumbotron and "costumes" given to the rabble (for the TV feed) to give it all legitimacy. RIAA needs its cut of the pomp after all.

NFL grasping at straws if you ask me. They attempted to “cover the bases” and of course ended up missing them all. Absolutely pathetic, the worst half time “show” in the history of the SB. I would bet right off the bat half of the TV audience was saying “Who the hell is that guy?” Including me. Swing and a miss NFL. Better luck next year, but I doubt it.

There were eight players in Maroon 5. Shouldn't they call themselves Maroon 8? Irregardless, the half time show and the game were boring. This was the second time in my life that I watched a super bowl from beginning to end. This boring performance just reinforced why I don't watch football (or any sports). Even the commercials were not much to get excited over.

I guess I'm too old to be relevant, but like most of you guys I am not a fan of that kind of music.
But I was happy with the out come of the game, (yes.. you can hate me, I'm a New England native, and life long Pats fan, even thru the "dark years"..) |

What made it even more disappointing for me is that I think Maroon 5 is very capable of performing music well. Adam is a very good vocalist and the band is solid. I took my daughter to see them many years ago when they were touring for their breakthrough album Songs About Jane. I was very pleasantly surprised at how good they were.
I guess they are trying to stay relevant?? Ugh... For me it's even more disappointing knowing they could have performing real music.

NFL is quickly tanking and a half time show isn't going to save it. No interest sports-wise, musically, politically or any other wise!
I briefly flicked by the game to get the score and time left and felt the Rams but for the "non-call" shouldn't have been there......... and they proved it! Now, lets order up the god-awful rings to go with the gold chains, diamond ear rings and the plethora of tattoos. Next month we'll have the basketball tournaments (NBA minor leagues) where they'll show case their skills for the big money contracts. At least they will be giving their "110%". I think I've finally have turned into an old curmudgeon! Fog |

The game went as I suspected. Two good defenses shutting down the other guys offense. That's really what happened. and I do agree, had it not been for that now infamous blown call in the Saints game,.... would have been a different game, and more likely a different outcome. |

Well not the greatest halftime show but at least we were spared them trotting out some over-the-hill baby boomer who hasn’t had a hit in 40 years. Thank you NFL for not pandering to your base demographic for the halftime show at least.
Maroon 5 was pretty OK, the other guys I wasn’t much interested in, but one of my kids was into it. Could have lived without whatever they were bleeping out, but then I recall I used to love me some AC/DC, and they weren’t exactly choir boys either, so I can live with it. |
