I’ve owned 4 believe it or not. Foolishly sold my LTD Rosewood with ES. Bought a standard Spruce/Mahogany. Wisely sold it. Bought an all Mahogany (which I loved and shouldn’t have sold)...sold it to a friend who kept asking me to sell it to him. Bought another all Mahogany. It’s a keeper.

Upgraded pins, tuners, JJB 330, and strung it with Monel .013’s. I’m amazed at the tones these little guys produce every time I play it. I’ve owned everything from Martin, Taylor, Santa Cruz, Larrivee, Gibson, Langejans, Yamaha, Bedell, Breedlove, etc.

While it would be foolish to say that the Mini outperformed them, I will say that it’s crazy how much fun, tone, and and pure pleasure I get from playing my Mini.

I do prefer the all Mahogany version. Just a personal preference.

Thanks for sharing!

Yes, the Mahogany top is the favorite here in AGF for gs minis....as a recent poll here indicates...

Hi, can you be more specific about the type of strings you're using. I'm a newbie and "monel" doesn't mean much to me. I did a search and it looks like there are multiple monels out there. Also, what kind of sound difference to do you notice.

I have a 2015 or 2016 that I bought used last year. I think it sounds great with the Taylor recommended Elixirs, but would like to try something that might help out he low end.

Besides the GS Mini, I have a Seagull S6 Slim that I also put Elixirs on. Wow, did I notice a difference. My dreadnaught lost a lot of boomy bottom end with the brightness of the Elixirs. I think I'm going to try a new set of strings each month on both guitars just to see what I like.

If all else fails, I'll go back to the original Godins on my S6 and keep the Elixirs on the GS Mini.

Thanks in advance,
Mike (SeaTay)

I believe they’re called Martin Retros (monel is in smaller text in the corner if memeory serves). They seem to work very well on all Mahogany guitars. My mini loves them (I kept with the original gauge of .013’s). I’ve tried countless brands and tend to stick with Monels on the mini.

Congrats! Nicest walnut back I’ve seen on a Mini! And very unique looking Spruce top too with its brown lines!

Hi Guys! New to forum. I decided to see if I could renew my interest in playing guitar recently and picked up a Taylor GS Mini Hog a couple of months ago. It has been almost 50 years since I played. Yeah I'm old lol. I like messing with wood so I hand made a Truss rod cover and pick guard and replaced the OEM plastic. Really liked the guitar and after a month or so found a 2018 Martin 000-28 and grabbed that also. So I play daily and hope to climb back to the mediocre beginner level.

Ill check the photo posting for this forum and see if I can get some pics up soon.

Great to hear that you are picking up guitar playing again.

You can refer to post number 64 in this thread to help you figure out how to post pictures on this forum.

Can any of you guys give me an idea of the size difference in the GS Mini and a 00 guitar? I am picturing something between the GS Mini and the 000 guitars I have. Not having physically seen an 00 in person I'm wondering how different one is in comparison to the Mini.

I own a 000, an 00 12 fret and a GS Mini. Here is a picture of the Eastman 00 and Taylor GS mini together.
Dimensions, Taylor over all length 37", Eastman 38-3/4"
Lower bout are both 14-3/8" wide
Body length, Taylor 17-1/2", Eastman 19-3/8"
Scale length Taylor 23-1/2", Eastman 24.8" a basic short scale instrument.

The 00 is a very comfortable instrument to play, smaller and more compact then my Martin 000-15M but with great over all dimensions so I never feel cramped.

Wow - That's actually more different than I had imagined. I like compact guitars and I think my 000 is as large as I would go. The 00 might be a nice addition in the future. Thanks a lot for posting that!

Default My GS mini hog

Recently did some upgrades to my mini hog.

Bone saddle and pins. Cocobolo truss rod cover. Gotoh mini gold tuners. LR Baggs Element VTC. Surely a keeper!

I already own and love a mini (walnut/spruce) and I'm trying to avoid buying another version. This thread is not helping...
