Lets say the rules are, it had to be NEW and under $300,

I'm taking a chance on one of the Xaviere acoustics that arrives tomorrow. It will have laminated bubinga back and sides and a solid cedar top. I don't expect miracles, but I've heard some pretty nice reviews in the "value for money" category. If I don't like it, I know a music teacher it will get donated to.

What have you seen?

Its gotta be the Harley Benton CLD 15 M that i bought for about €150(just gone up to €165 on the site) solid mahogany top,lam mahogany back n sides, bone nut and saddle, faultlessly clean forward shifted, scalloped Xbracing( cleaner than my J200,but not as sweet sounding),it is incredibly loud and was a little brash but seems to have calmed down a bit since having some heavy use and is now behaving itself with the martin retro monel strings.it also has the most beautiful top markings of any mahogany guitar I've ever seen, similar to a deep red cats belly markings.

Seems like the benchmark for dirt cheap keeps creeping up. But so does the price of dirt, at least around here.

Back in 1970 I got a laminated Yamaha for $100.00.
It was actually a gift from my parents.
That guitar was great sounding and played very easy.

I had someone offer their Martin 00-18 in trade but I liked the sound of the Yamaha much more than the Martin.
So did my friend.

To be truthful, at the time, I didn't know that the Martin was worth a lot more than the Yamaha. I was going on sound only.

I have this old inexpensive 1970s Yamaha that's all laminate and desperately needs a setup (in polite guitarist parlance: "good for slide.")

There is no logical reason it should sound as good as it does.

My wife bought me a Fender DG8-S pack about 2006 or so for $175. Solid Spruce top, scalloped x-braces, laminated mahogany B/S and neck, and included a tuner, gig bag, picks, strap, and an instructional CD.

It is a great guitar and just keeps sounding better. I have given a couple as Christmas gifts and the kicker is, they are now about $169 on Amazon.

Well, it is a resurrected thread from 2012 so there's all that inflation time...

My dear wife did call me a few months ago from Goodwill (I can't believe she went without me BUT in this case, it's ok): "There's a Baby Taylor here for $14. What should I do?". I had to ask: "Is this a trick question?"

Aside from older-than-dirt strings and a handful of scratches, it is in fine shape.

A couple of years back my local guitar shop guy, whom Uve bought all my high end guitars from had a La Patrie Classical all wood with a hairline crack in the bass bout. It is a surface crack and stable. He sold it to me for $200. Great deal and a great guitar.

What have you seen?
The Rogue RA-090 for $50.00 before the Trump up tariff increases in China. The guitar has great projection, sustain, and tone. Why? Because the builders use scalloped x bracing. They just build a great guitar that plays and stays in tune.Go over to Musicans Friend and read the reviews.

Ridiculous SDOTD for $289 free shipping.

My son has played one of these charcoal Guild OM-240CE's for the past couple of months. Looks great and sounds amazing, esp. @ $300 new, shipped.

I had one. Sold it. Regret it, to this day.

My FG-331 was $140.00. No neck issues. Love it.

I has a ladder-braced CBS Masterworks Grand Concert acoustic I sold a few years ago, that I wish I kept. It had a very unique, "boxy blues" sound.
