Great description - I'm pleased you picked up on those attributes in the recording as they're clearly there in real life.

Thanks for the kind words Paul. A lot of stress has gone into my 'super relaxed and graceful hands'!

The cushion is a Dynarette, but there are cheaper versions out there. I really need a larger one, but that is the largest I can find (footrests cause twisting and back problems and therefore tension).

Another recording coming soon - this time a Sobell Model 2 D guitar (longer scale).

Yes, for a more useful comparison I could have A and B'd them, same tuning, same piece. If I get them back, I'll do that.

Thanks Thomas - I changed the attack and also snapped at the strings in places to create a bluesy feel which I thought was appropriate for the music. I'm not sure the fullness and bass response was truly reproduced as a result though.

Wonderful playing. In both cases it felt like the instrument really matched the piece, a testament to both guitar and player, no doubt. Clean, precise, but still expressive.

The first piece was probably my favorite - chimey highs with lows that managed to be both growly and articulate.

Thanks DCN. I did try to match the piece to the guitar, but I should have also played both pieces on each guitar for a better comparison.

Your description is spot on and I found both to be inspirational.

Just been on Stefan's website and see these guitars are for sale there, along with some nice pics of Jonny's endeavors.

I read there that Stefan was "retiring" but I have to say the evidence doesn't match the reality!

It was a Sobell many years ago that started me off on this crazy luthier-built guitar thing. More importantly, it was so many levels above what I had already (Lowden / Fylde etc.) that it made me play far, far more.
