My Messiah 808 is beautifully made - I imagine the Artist model is the same build but with blackwood instead of rosewood.

Wood binding and AAA woods.......I have no idea what the equivalent Martin 00-14 Custom would cost but it sure wouldn’t be 3 1/2 by the time it landed in Tasmania!

Well a Martin 000-18 is $4000 in Melboune, give or take; Tasmania usually a little extra; does that provide a guide?

Nice as the Martin 000-18 is, I don't think we can compare a mid level Martin mahogany to a top of the line factory build glossy Maton Messiah EM100-808 deep body with AAA rosewood/AAA sitka, wood binding, AP5-Pro pickup system etc....well, with the works!

Perhaps compare it to an upgraded Martin 00-28 with a great pickup (probably an Anthem or a K&K Trinity Onboard system to be 'stand alone' at gigs?).

P.S. .......and that would be way, way more than $4K by the time it arrived in Tasmania!

i owned a 808 Artist around 12 yrs ago, i was new and didn't really know how to appreciate its qualities. Maton has revamped some bracing/build characteristics from what i've read a few yrs ago and the acoustic tone is much better. there are a couple models i really like now.

check out some performance using a Maton with Phily Campbell while playing for Allie Sherlock.
I like this modern type tone and it sounds exceptional to me-very clean, clear, precise. Not sure which model Phily is playing, looks like blackwood back/sides though.
ok, in the 2nd video i see it has the keyhole headstock, so i'm thinking this is the 808 Artist.

found some more Phily Campbell. Check out Martin Tallstrom if you haven't, he uses a Maton 808 on some songs(martin has a lot of guitars so you'll have to dig it out).
