It's a July 2015 Martin...just wait longer. Play it more. I have found you have to play through the bad patches...play it...don't moddycoddle it...you gotta stretch it through it's paces. Maybe it will mellow out, limber up and improve.
I had a 2008 D-28 which sounds a bit like how you describe your guitar. It was, for want of a better word, somewhat uptight. After about two years I just found that I was almost playing a different guitar. It wasn't giving me grief anymore. It was like it became supple and smooth. Having said that, there's always a chance it won't improve and that it's a lemon. But I kind of doubt it. Certainly, it needs to be played more...and really play it...don't wrap it in cotton wool. Get into it. You'll get it there |

Great lefty8.
I love my M36 and have tried a number of strings, currently Retro Monels. That can be a fun experiment in itself. [/QUOTE] Hi Woodbox, can you tell me how the Retro's sound on your guitar? Cheers |

I just put some Monels on my M-38 for the first time about a week ago. I think I'm going to like them.

D-18 will be bigger in both size and sound. You trade comfort for tone.
It sounds like you don't love the tone of this guitar. You also mention tuners. Tuners can be upgraded easily to keep the guitar in tune better (assuming you keep it at room temp, humidified). But that won't improve tone. That said, I'm told this is a tough time to sell a guitar (holidays, weather for shipping), so maybe it's worth waiting until spring when the market picks up. You might sell more easily, at a better price, and that gives you a few months to make sure that's the best move for you. Good luck! |
