How lucky can you get?
Long story short; there was a bit of a mis-selling banking insurance scandal going on here in England some years ago involving something called 'payment protection insurance' or PPI for short.
Anyhow, for months on end people were bombarded with calls from companies offering to claim back the money we were owed and I, eventually, succumbed thinking, what the heck. I had no idea if or when I might have been taken advantage of but got the forms, filled them in etc. Checked my account today and, lo and behold, a nice person had deposited enough green for a new guitar. I went down to my local store, checked out a D-18 Standard, put down a deposit, sold my spleen, a close relative and traded a few other guitars, and tomorrow, after a setup, it'll be coming home. What a nice way to greet May... Thanks for reading.

Great fortune for you. A classic guitar you are sure to enjoy. It is nice to get a bit of personal sunshine.
All the best to you! Last edited by Paddy1951; 05-02-2019 at 10:01 AM. |

On a quick trip back to England last month, my brother-in-law was telling me about this, while showing me his new Canon DSLR

WE here in the states went through a 20 trillion dollar banking crisis 10 years ago.
Evaporation took on another meaning. As British Mark Knopfler sings: "Money for nothing and your chicks for free". |

And nobody sent me a check in the mail. A new D-18 would have made me feel much better!

It’s weird you saying that and this is true, it happened to me 2 months ago and I did the same , I went out and bought a new Furch guitar thanks PPI and the robbing banks.....it all stops in August though, so I’ve heard ....

Not as much as for the kidney, sadly.

Well, both were surplus to requirements, obviously! But this does make it more difficult to use the same bartering strategy next time.
Of course, it’s probably not necessary that it be your OWN body parts... whm |

Congratulations on the new D-18!
I look forward to a NGD post or any further reports you may have, especially in light of your enthusiasm for the Yamaha LL16 etc. All the best |

Thank you. I've only had the D-18 for a day, so I'll give it a couple of weeks to settle into itself and report back. Strings are my usual Elixir 80-20 Nanoweb 12-53, but I'm reluctantly going to leap from my familiar comfort zone and experiment with some non-coated varieties.
