Line 6 Wireless Happiness
After a lot of research on wireless systems, I pulled the trigger on a Line 6 Relay G50 (guitar) and an XD-V30 (mic). I'd been researching the wireless systems out there and decided that the 2.4 Ghz digital systems were definitely the way to go.
Both the units deliver great sound. To me, the G50 sounds as good as a cable and perhaps better. I do like the feature for simulating a cable and set it at the midpoint - it seems to give a warmer tone. Although Line 6 recommended not using rechargable batteries, I'm trying some out anyway - Sanyo Eneloops - that were recommended on several forums I visited when researching. I did try the Relay G30 but was sorely dissappointed, as are many others, with the flimsiness of the transmitter. I couldn't even get the battery compartment door to close. When I starting my wireless search, I'd hoped to steer clear of having to use a beltpack transmitter, wanting a bug-style instead. However, no digital system used one - at least in the U.S. So I gave that up, decided not to skimp, and got the G50. I tried putting the much heavier (but sturdier) metal transmitter on the guitar strap using a Levy's holder but soon found I liked it on the belt better as it was too heavy on the strap. I also purchased a spare 1/4" to TA4F cable, but not from Line 6. Another research expedition led me to a guy on eBay that custom-makes cables of any length you want specifically for the Line 6 G50 and G90 units. They can have straight or right-angle 1/4" jacks and the jacks are the Neutrik silent types. I got mine today - it's only 15 inches long - and it's just great. The maker was great to deal with and delivery was very fast. All in all, I'm a happy wireless camper (so far ... knock on wood).
